NAICONG LI Senior Research and GIS Analyst Dr. Naicong Li is a Senior Research and GIS Analyst at the Redlands Institute. She has led the establishment of the Spatial Decision Support (SDS) Consortium, and is leading the development of the SDS ontology to systematically represent the body of knowledge in the field of SDS and to organize various types of resources for SDS. Her recent projects also include modeling for non-native invasive species management SDS and desert tortoise recovery SDS. Her current research interests include spatial decision support, knowledge engineering, ontology-based geographical information representation and retrieval, spatial cognition, and urban growth modeling. Other Professional Experience Founding member, Spatial Decision Support Consortium: (http://www.spatial.redlands.edu/sds) GIS consultant, Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), 2005. Programmer for ArcSketch, an ArcGIS extension offering intuitive, semantic driven geographic feature sketching tools. GIS Consultant, Jones and Jones Architects and Landscape Architects, 2004-2005. Working with domain experts, developed ILARIS, a GIS model for evaluating intrinsic landscape aesthetic visual quality for nearshore Puget Sound area, which won the 2006 ASLA Research Category Award of Honor. Senior Linguistic Analyst at Language Systems, Inc., 1991-1997, 2000-2003. Designed and implemented a natural language translation engine for CopTrans and MedTrans, which are expectation-based speechto-speech machine translation applications for law enforcement and health-care industries. Designed and implemented, for multiple Department of Defense projects, natural language processing and machine translation system modules for semantic processing to creating concept network out of the syntactic parsing results, semantic reasoning, discourse processing for tracking discourse entities, morphological analysis and target language generation. Senior Programmer/Analyst at Countrywide Home Loans, Department of Artificial Intelligence, 19982000. Redesigned and implemented Mustang, a rule based expert system for loan compliance checking. Associate Research Scholar for the Aramaic Lexicon project at The Johns Hopkins University, 1986-1988. Designed and implemented library functions for maintaining large text and bibliography databases. Assisted in developing tools for text analysis (morphological and syntactic), lemma slip creation, concordance creation, bibliography compilation and formatting. Research Assistant at the Graduate Group of Cognitive Science, State University of New York at Buffalo, 1989-1991. Participated in research toward developing a theory and computer model for understanding narrative texts. Specialized in subjectivity, deixes and discourse reference tracking. Project Assistant of the artificial intelligence research group SNePS (Semantic Network Processing System), Computer Science Department, State University of New York at Buffalo, 1985-1986. Designed and implemented a pronoun resolution module for the group’s cognitive agent system. Selected publications and presentations Li, N., Raskin, R. Goodchild, M. and Janowicz, K.
