German Cemetery La Cambe
This is a German war cemetery in Lower Normandy and serves
as a stark contrast to the Allied equivalents. 21,202 German
soldiers are buried here making it the largest of its kind in
France.
Omaha Beach
It is on this beach that one of most historical accounts of
perseverance, tragedy, and torture played out. It was at Omaha
Beach, on June 6, 1944, that one of the deadliest battles during
D-Day occurred. As American soldiers moved to and from the
shore as effortless as the tide, a flawless plan of victory was no
match for their tragic course of destiny.

8:00pm – Menin Gate Last Port Ceremony
Every night at 8.00pm a moving ceremony takes place under the
Menin Gate in Ypres. For a few moments the noise of traffic
ceases and a stillness descends over the memorial. At exactly
8:00pm up to six members of the regular buglers from the local
volunteer Fire Brigade step into the roadway under the
memorial arch. They play Last Post, followed by a short silence
and then play Reveille. Visiting groups may lay a wreath and say
a few words. The Last Post Ceremony has become part of the
daily life in Ypres and the local people are proud of this simple
but moving tribute to the courage and self-sacrifice of those
who fell in defence of their town.
Dinner at your hotel
Overnight at the Novotel Ypres Centrum
Day Eight – Wednesday November 13
Breakfast at your hotel
Visit to the Essex Farm Cemetery
Essex Farm was the location of an Advanced Dressing Station
(ADS) during the Great War, and now is the site of a CWGC
Cemetery, as well as the remains of several bunkers some of
which were used by the ADS.
The unplanned layout of the graves here reveals the nature of
the cemetery. There are 1,199 burials, only 102 of which are
unidentified, again reflecting the location of the cemetery near
a dressing station, where casualties returned from action and
hence identification was the norm. There are also 19 special
memorials to men believed to be, or known to be, buried here.
Day Nine- Thursday November 14
Breakfast at your hotel
Guided tour of Vimy Ridge Canadian Memorial & Grange Tunnel
Canada's most impressive tribute overseas to those Canadians
who fought and gave their lives in the First World War is the
majestic and inspiring
Flanders Fields Museum
One of the most outstanding World War I museums
Canadian National Vimy Memorial which overlooks the Douai
Plain. The Memorial does more than mark the site of the
engagement that Canadians were to remember with more pride
than any other operation of the First World War. It stands as a
tribute to all who served their country in battle in that four-year
struggle and particularly to those who gave their lives.
Lunch on own

monument "The Brooding Soldier" which commemorates the

Visit to the Tyne Cot British Cemetery
This cemetery was erected on top of the land that acted as a
stage for one of the deadliest battles in history, a beautiful and
momentous stop on your tour of Ypres.
Passendaele
Passchendaele, one of the bloodiest battles in human history,
was fought, near Ypres, July-November, 1917. Casualties on
both sides were about 850,000, and this "third battle of Ypres"
is still hotly debated for its futility. Canadian and British soldiers
finally took Passchendale, only to lose it a few months later
back to the Germans.
Langemark Cemetery
Langemark Cemetery is one of four World War I German
cemeteries in Flanders. Here rest more than 44,000 German
soldiers, nearly half unknown. The cemetery is a stark contrast
to the Allied cemeteries in design.
Zonnebeke Museum
Zonnebeke Memorial Museum, located near the village of
Passchendaele, keeps the memory of the battle alive through
images and movies, a large collection of historical artefacts and
several life-like-dioramas. There is an underground dugout
tunnel that recreates World War I trench warfare conditions.
Dinner included
Overnight at hotel (2-star)
Day Ten – Friday November 15
