A MESSAGE FROM THE
PRESIDENT
Another successful semester
is in the history books. I am
ESF in the News
An Honor for Dr. Neil Murphy
Sorry about the faulty link last
week. Please go here for the
complete story about the honor
Dr. Cornelius B. Murphy, Jr.,
received from the U.S. Green
Building Council.
continually impressed and
amazed by our students.
They embody a positive spirit
of making the world better
that I have not seen at any
other institution. I am no less
impressed by our staff who
so consistently go far above and beyond
expectations to make ESF successful on all
fronts, and by our fantastic faculty who deliver a
uniquely excellent educational experience while
uniquely excellent educational experience while
pushing the forefront of diverse disciplines in
the sciences, engineering, management, design,
and scholarship. Given trends and needs in
science, technology, and society, if ESF did not
exist, we would be well advised to create an
institution like it.
For each of you, I wish a well-deserved, restful,
and peace-filled holiday break. I look forward to
recharging my batteries with some time to be
with loved ones, a little woodworking and
writing, and some quiet reflection on ESF's
accomplishments to date and the exciting
opportunities that lie ahead. Whatever
replenishes you, enjoy!
My best to students, faculty, staff, alumni,
trustees, and other partners.
Quentin Wheeler, Ph.D.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
President Wheeler Works with SU
Regarding Tuition Waivers for ESF
Employees' Dependents
The issue of partial tuition waivers for ESF
employees' dependents who enroll at SU in (or
after) the fall of 2016 is under discussion
between President Wheeler and SU Chancellor
Kent Syverud. Currently, the dependents of
employees who were hired before Sept. 1, 2010,
receive an 85 percent tuition waiver. Those ESF
employees' dependents already enrolled at SU
will continue to receive the waivers. An
announcement about waivers for those yet to
enroll will be made as soon as details are
known.
Status Report: SU Student Services
and IT
ESF has purchased services, access to facilities
and programming for its students through SU
and programming for its students through SU
since the College was founded in 1911. In 1948,
when the College became part of SUNY it was
determined that rather than replicating many of
the instructional and student services provided
by SU, the College would instead contract with
SU to provide these services.
