Further Information about the sessions:
Developing Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning in KS4 – Anne Haworth
In this session, we will consider some real world and pure mathematical problems and other
classroom activities, and discuss the contribution they can make to helping pupils to apply
mathematics confidently to familiar and unfamiliar situations and to develop their
mathematical reasoning.
The Linked Pair Pilot and GCSE 2015 – Marek Milejski
This session will look at those topics in the Linked pair pilot such as proof and Venn
diagrams which will become part of the GCSE Maths specifications in 2015.
A selection of interesting calculus problems in Core Maths – Bernard Murphy
Come prepared to work on some appealing problems that can be tackled using calculus.
Finding the sum of the first 1000 square roots, minimizing the length of road to connect four
cities, maximizing the volume of a packet that Royal Mail will transport, and more.
My Top 20 pictures for teaching Core Maths – Bernard Murphy
Pictures that explain concepts in Core Maths, make me (and you, I hope) think differently
about familiar ideas or encourage students to ask important questions themselves.
Exploring the Normal Distribution – Stella Dudzic
This session will look at ways of introducing and teaching ideas related to the Normal
distribution.
Mathematics curriculum change and development update – Stella Dudzic
New GCSEs in mathematics are planned for first teaching from September 2015, with new A
levels from September 2016. Core Mathematics qualifications are due for first teaching in
September 2015, with early adopters from September 2014. This session will outline
forthcoming changes at KS4 and post-16.
