The Travel
The Details
When you study abroad, you become part of the
course itself. You will find yourself immersed in
the foundations of the British criminal justice
system when you visit:
The travel program is $3200, which includes:

The Course
CJ 111: Principles of Criminal Law
The substantive law is discussed: How and why
laws are created with an emphasis on specific
offenses against persons and property. Also covered: what constitutes a violation of the law and
how police must satisfy the legal requirements
imposed by the elements of the statutes so that
the State may successfully prosecute a criminal
case. Landmark US Supreme Court and selected
state court cases are studied. (3 credits)



Studying these topics in London provides a firsthand view of the origins of the US legal system.
You will gain insight on the evolution of law
from the rule of the monarch to the US Constitution and criminal law system.

The Experience
The Next Steps
This course begins on May 31, 2016 with a series
of required class meetings on campus prior to
departure. We will travel to London from June
12 - June 21, 2016. You will draw on your direct
observations of public institutions, interviews
with public officials and reactions to site visits to
frame your comparative analysis of the US and
UK criminal law systems for your final project,
which you will present in class on campus the
week of June 27th.
Submit a completed application form (available
on the HCC website under Academics/GEE)
to Professor Profili
If accepted, enroll in CJ 111 for Summer Session I, and pay your non-refundable $500 deposit no later than December 4, 2015.
Make sure your passport is up to date.
Pay the balance of the program fee and tuition
no later than March 11, 2016.
