Pediatric Rotations for Visiting Students Thank you for your interest in a fourth‐year pediatric rotation at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Children’s Medical Center. Below is a quick overview of the types of electives offered, requirements for individual students, the application process and timeline, as well as other helpful information for visiting students. Fourth‐year Pediatric Rotations 
Block Dates for 2015‐2016 Academic Year 
Course descriptions o PED 1205, 1214, 1221, 1222, 1230, 1231 and 1422 are not offered to visiting students Application Process and Requirements 
Students from U.S. medical schools (including non‐LCME accredited schools) o Complete VSAS Application 
Note: It is not necessary to apply for more than one Pediatric rotation in VSAS. Doing so will not increase your chances of being accepted. If accepted, your rotation dates will be considered, but in the end rotation availability slots will be the deciding factor. (Dates are inflexible you will have to take this into mind when applying) Submit all documents as listed on the UTSW visiting students page  Missing documents will automatically make your application incomplete and therefore will not be reviewed. *** Please review the Checklists carefully. All items are required to rotate in Pediatrics and no requirements are waivered in both VSAS and International visiting student programs.*** Housing Scholarships The Office of Graduate Medical Education at Children’s Medical Center has established a housing scholarship to support fourth‐year medical students from other institutions interested in exploring a clinical experience at UT Southwestern/Children’s Medical Center. These scholarships provide for housing during your four‐week rotation and are awarded based upon each student’s academic performance, involvement in extracurricular, service and leadership activities, and stated interest in pursuing pediatric residency training. If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, please indicate your interest on the visiting student questionnaire required in the application processes. Pediatric Rotations for Visiting Students Application Timeline: April 2016‐ December 2016 Academic Year – Due to curriculum reform starting as of January 2017 the Pediatric department will not accept applications for visiting students or schedule any visiting students past December 2016. April 1, 2016 Elective registration for UT Southwestern students VSAS open for visiting students to begin application process May 1, 2016 Review of VSAS applications begins June 2, 2016 Review of international student applications begins June 2016 –
December 2016 Once application is complete and reviewed: ‐ Housing scholarship recipients notified of awards ‐ Applicants notified on a rolling basis of elective availability and to confirm elective choices. ‐ Once matched to an elective, applicants will receive email asking them to accept the elective slot in VSAS. Slots can only be held for 3 days, so please accept promptly or contact us if other options need to be discussed. ‐ Receive welcome/orientation email with instructions for first day of rotation. March 2017 Application information for 2017‐2018 Academic Year will be posted (July 2017 – June 2018) Applications will continue to be reviewed from April 1 – December 31, 2016, visiting students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible after April 1, as elective slots for the academic year often fill early in the scheduling process. No visiting student will be accepted after December 2016. **As a last reminder dates are inflexible and requirements are not waived.**
