Principal’s Message
June, 2015
There continues to be an abundance of activities
planned for June, so please continue to talk about
the happenings at school with your children.
Dear Parents & Guardians,
We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all
the parents and friends of the school, who come in
to volunteer. Without your dedication and support,
some of our programs would not run.
We also have a hard working group of students
who: volunteer in classrooms for the eating portion
of nutrition breaks, support kids on the JK and
primary yard, read announcements in the morning,
library help and answer phones in the office. These
volunteers are to be commended for the valuable
service they offer. We are lucky to have such
dedicated students who spend time modeling the
Character Traits of: compassion, responsibility and
fairness. Thank you student volunteers!
Our ‘Breakfast Club’ volunteers deserve special
recognition, as they come in week after week to
serve our students pancakes, juice, fruit and
smoothies. Thank you to Daniela, Jacqueline and
Kerry: your commitment and support of the
program is outstanding. We would like to send a
HUGE thank you to Linda Campbell, who takes a
lead in our Breakfast Program, ordering, picking up
the food, and filling out grant applications. How
lucky we are to have such an energetic, caring
group.
A final note of appreciation goes to our School
Council executive and working members. These
people devote countless number of hours to
provide all the ‘extras’ that enrich the lives of
children.
Sincerely.
Mr. Huddleston
Lunchroom Supervisors
What would we do without our permanent
lunchroom/yard supervisors? Thank you for your
support of our students over the nutrition breaks:
Mrs. Manchester, Mrs. Romanelli and our alternate
supervisors.
If you are moving out of our
school area, or if you know anyone moving
into our school area, please let the office
know. This helps us ensure balanced
numbers in classes on the first day of
school. The following website is also
extremely helpful to identify your child’s
home school and where to register your
child. www.findmyschool.ca

Environmental Update
Volunteer Tea
We are so appreciative of all our parent support,
both inside and outside the classroom! THANK
YOU for assisting us in so many ways! On
Wednesday, June 10, from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm, we
will be holding our Volunteer Tea in the library. We
have a culture of celebration and recognition in our
Ross R. community and we look forward to a
wonderful afternoon. Please make sure to let your
child's teacher know that you will be attending!
Caring about the environment is
all about “doing”. So get out
there and start doing all the
things you've learned about this
year. It's time for all of us to start
Living Green 365 days a year and make a
commitment to environmental stewardship,
so we can keep our Earth healthy!
Caring about our planet means being
educated about our planet. Learn as much
as you can. Earth needs smart people to
take care of it! Be curious, ask questions,
gather knowledge and find solutions. You
need to understand what the problems are
in order to fix them.
Every one of us is important when it comes
to caring for the Earth and protecting it for
the future. An advocate is someone who
publically speaks or writes or does actions
to support an important cause. What kind of
“Earth Advocate” are you? Choose from the
following list:
A) Activist: I want to help others to change
their habits to help the Earth. I want to host
an event or make a website that
encourages others to Live Green. I want to
write letters to our government to ask them
to make positive changes.
B) Motivator: I will help others change their
habits by being a role model that others can
follow. People will see me living green and
making a difference and be motivated to do
the same.
C) Educator: I will research environmental
issues and tell other people what I learn. I
will be curious and ask questions and
gather knowledge and find solutions to
environmental problems that I will share
with others.
So decide what kind of “Earth Advocate”
you are. You can be more than one type!
Slogan of the month: Live Green 365 days
a year!
Play Safe in the Sun
As the weather gets warmer,
remember to stay safe in the sun.
Before you and your child head
outside, check the UV index on The
Weather Network or Environment
Canada websites.
When you go outside, wear sunglasses, hat, and
sunscreen (SPF of 15 or higher). And if the UV
index is 6 or more (high), try to stay in the shade.
Keep in mind that babies and children burn more
quickly from the sun. Sunscreen is not
recommended for babies under 6 months old, but is
safe to use on older children.
For more information about sun safety, visit Health
Canada at www.healthcanada.gc.ca.

Newsletter Special Education
As summer approaches it is time to start thinking about what I can do as a parent to support my child’s continuing
education throughout their holidays. Upper Grand District School Board now allows for home use of a student’s assistive
technology. Please ask your child’s teacher about the “HOME USE OF ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY PROTOCOL” form if
you would like your child to bring their assistive technology home for the summer.
Some programs that your child might want to use over the summer:
