A short explanation of the phrase is playing to accomplish more than just the goal. It’s simple to say, but very challenging to act on. We at Steen Hall firmly believe that we play above the rim; we strive to go above and beyond what we are expected. We do this because that is what we feel we should do, because we work and serve the wonderful residents at Steen Hall. After reviewing our bid, I hope that you consider Steen Hall for the Hall of the Year award for the First Year Hall category. As always, Axe ‘em! Jacob Lusk, Steen President COACHING STAFF (EXECS) President: Jacob Lusk Vice President: Rosie Vega Secretary: Angela Treese Treasurer: Jazzmine Junigan Historian: Veronica Vasquez Advisors: Shea Roll & Diane Nwokey OUR #1 FANS One of the great things about the Steen community is that the bond between staff and hall council is very strong. The Council often assists CA’s with programs, and CA’s work with the hall council to offer ideas for programs/decorations. Geneen Meetings Every hall council meeting, and prep for the meeting, is accompanied by the use of an agenda, minutes, and internal communication leading to the meeting. Internal Communication The hall council’s main source of communication and collaboration outside of meetings is the council’s Facebook group. Posts and documents are frequently added to the group feed. Monthly Calendar HC Execs form a calendar every month that outlines the council’s programs for the month. The calendar also includes deadlines pertaining to pricing and procard shopping. Agenda Every hall council agenda contains the following: Agenda Items RHA Update Announcements Upcoming Dates/Reminders HOW WE WIN THE GAME “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” –Tony Robins A basketball team may set goals and objectives in preparation for a big game, and hall council is no different. Below are goals passed by the Steen Hall Council at the start of the spring semester. COUNCIL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES GOAL 1: Review and improve the marketing, and communication aspects of hall council. Create a chairperson position for Marketing/Communications GOAL 2: Increase active membership of hall council GOAL 3: Plan and implement more programs for residents GOAL 4: Exercise the use of a program coordinator for major programs (i.e. Campuswide events, etc.) This person will report ideas and updates for major programs. REFELECTION OF GOALS AND OBJECTIVES GOAL 1: GOAL 2: GOAL 3: GOAL 4: We held an internal election for a Marketing and Communications Chair to oversee the advertisements, flyers, and social media accounts for Steen HC. Heavy advertising assisted in getting the word out about meetings, etc. Many ideas were brought to the table that were beneficial and cost-friendly Execs would rotate in this position for every big program/RHA event HOW WE REACH OUR FANS “Business has only two functions - marketing and innovation.” -Milan Kundera Basketball, or any sport for that matter, loves to keep up with their fans. In fact, Hall council loves to find new ways to interact with our residents and those from the community. This year hall council began the use of social media as an outlet. We began with a Facebook group for the Steen Hall Council to ensure that our members knew what was going on. The Executives used this to plan events, schedule pricing times, and to prepare for Showcase Saturday. We then set up a Facebook group, a Twitter account, and an Instagram. These have been used to advertise upcoming events, meetings, and important information. Together as a team, Steen has found ways to reach the large number of occupants it holds. It may seem like a lot, but there are no cutting corners when it comes Steen Hall. Steen HC Instagram Steen HC Facebook Group Flyers made for meetings WORKING WITH THE LEAUGE The Steen Hall Council makes a strong effort to attend and participate with RHA. This Spring Semester, Steen has had a representative at the RHA Senate every other week and has a handful of residents attending General Assembly. Members of Hall Council also assisted in RHA’s Window Washing.
