The course will focus on in class learning and hands-on experiences at work placements at the following locations; Ignatius Farms Guelph community Health Center Green Legacy Tree Nursery Habitat for Humanity - Restore Blue Haven Farms Community Gardens in Guelph **Career based field trips and shorter work placements will also occur at other locations over the semester. Key Learning’s Personal Awareness: Students will learn about themselves and develop an understanding of, and practise the skills, habits and characteristics needed to be effective and positive school / work and community members Workplace Safety: Students will learn how to keep themselves safe in the workplace. Team Building – Students will learn how to become part of an effective learning / workplace team. Goal Setting / Organization: Students will develop and use goal setting to improve skills, work habits and become more successful at work / school. Futures 101 – Students will develop an employment portfolio and explore careers of interest. Daily Lessons and Activities to prepare for the workplace: team building activities, interest and career assessments, Health and Safety Education 2. Creating a safe learning and working atmosphere 3. Harvesting and maintaining vegetable gardens 4. Tree planting and Transplanting 5. Working with the Habitat for Humanity Restore 6. Farm work with livestock 7. Social – Emotional support program 8. Working with the city of Guelph 9. Developing workplace essential skills and work habitats 10. Participate in two week Work Experience Program 11.
