CAT Styles List
This appendix displays the various styles used in NSG documents. The styles are divided into the
following categories: Cover Page Headings, Table of Contents Headings, Narrative and Public
Concerns Headings, Appendix Headings, and Coding Structure Headings (these are named CAT
because they refer to our previous incarnation of the Content Analysis Team).
Cover Page Headings

TOC 1 (Level 1 – to designate Chapter level or highest organizational level)
TOC 2 (Level 2 – to designate Section level or 2nd highest organizational level)
TOC 3 (Level 3 – to designate Subsection level or 3rd highest level)
TOC 4 (Level 4 – to designate Sub-subsection level or 4th highest level)
TOC 5 (Level 5 – to designate Visual Heading/Editorial; not always
needed)
TOC 6 (Level 6 – use only when creating a TOC for all Public Concerns)
TOC 7 (LEVEL 7 – SUBCONCERNS, USE ONLY WHEN CREATING A TOC FOR ALL PCS)
Narrative and Public Concerns Headings
Chapter 1
Chapter Heading (Level 1 in format hierarchy)

CAT Heading 1-Unnumbered
