Hope you have some great adventures and some relaxing times. The year has gone by very quickly and we have had a very exciting year full of different adventures and learning. The end of a school year often marks changes in staffing. We are so pleased to welcome Mrs. Follas back after a year-long hiatus spent travelling and enjoying life. This year we must also say goodbye to Mrs. Ramage who was with us in the library for a short time. We wish her all the very best in her new placement. We are also very sad to inform you that Mme McMorris will be retiring from teaching so she will not be with us in the fall; thank you Madame for the last few years where your passion for French language permeated the school. Your love of the French language is very apparent and you will be dearly missed. We hope you will come back often to visit us. Au revoir et bon chance! We say farewell to some of our students who are moving and to our grade 6s who are moving on. We wish you all the very best for a fulfilled, happy life. Looking ahead to next year already, the School Council has arranged for a second No Tippy Tappy event to be run at the Marden Athletic Centre on Saturday, November 14th from 1-3 pm. This is a fantastic, free opportunity for families and their friends to model active living together. Mrs. Mullin applied on behalf of the Council so all the costs are covered through a Parents Reaching Out Grant. We would love to have all of our families join us. Please mark your calendars early! See everyone back on September 8th, 2015! Mrs. Plazek OPEN HOUSE - MARK YOUR CALENDARS We look forward to seeing everyone at our Open House and BBQ on Thursday, September 24th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. School Council will be hosting a BBQ and more info will follow in the fall. See you then! SEPTEMBER PROCEDURE- NO POSTING OF CLASS LISTS In keeping with privacy legislation and to keep our children safe, the Upper Grand D.S.B. will no longer publicly post class lists or make class lists available to parents. ~S. Krueger, Freedom of Information Co-ordinator for the Upper Grand D.S.B. In fairness to all families, no teachers will share class placement info prior to the first day of school in September. SCHOOL COUNCIL If you are interested in joining our School Council, please join us on Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00 pm in the library. School Council executive positions will be filled at this meeting. The Notice of Nomination form will go home in the first newsletter in September 2015. For more information, please contact Chris Williston at chris.williston@hotmail.com. Please see the year end in review for a sample of the activities/events/fundraisers the council engages in. Thank you for supporting the fundraisers so generously so that there is money to help support so many school events. Go Eramosa! SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR A copy of the school year calendar (including the day cycle for elementary students) is included in this newsletter. Please note that the first day of school for students will be Tuesday, September 8th, 2015. The first day of school for teachers will be a Professional Activity Day on Thursday, September 3rd. NEW MAPLE TREE When you visit the school you will notice a new sugar maple tree has been planted in the spot where the old tree that died, stood. Thanks to Theresa Knierim and Chris Williston for applying for the grant; to Ms. MacKenzie’s son for digging the hole to earn some community service hours for high school, to Jackie Davis-Rayner for arranging for the purchase, delivery and planting of the tree and to the Grand River Conservation Foundation for providing the funds to purchase the tree. Digital books can be enjoyed on a computer, tablet, smartphone or eReader device. Our digital collection can be accessed anywhere in the world, as long as there is an internet connection. Visit our digital collection at https://www.ugdsb.on.ca/ug2go and make sure your student starts summer vacation off right! Look for the Overdrive button under the Read section of UG2GO. Also remember your RAZ kids membership works until the end of August, so you can continue to build your reading skills all summer long. OUR WELL AND DRINKING WATER We are one of the 14 schools in our district that gets their drinking water from wells. All of our other schools are on municipal water systems. The Province’s Drinking Water System Regulation (Ontario Regulation 170/03) requires us to test the water at our school regularly and provide an annual report. The report covers many aspects of the drinking water system and includes information on its performance, operation and test results. You can come into the school office and get a copy of this report, or go to the board’s website www.ugdsb.on.ca/dw to see our annual report and those for the other sites. The regular testing helps ensure that the water supply in our schools continues to be safe and of a high quality. SAVE THE DATE!
