Exploring HRAC/Mechanical Trades
CONS1710
Sem 2
TCN4T
This course is designed to introduce the students to the basics of
Gas fitting. Students will take part in both theoretical and practical
studies, to provide them with the basic knowledge of the skills,
safety procedures and theories they will require to participate in
shop work. In pipefitting portion of the course, students learn to
install and connect piping systems including processes that
convey gas, or the tubing for any pneumatic or air-handling
system. They will also be introduced to design drawings,
manufacturer's literature and installation programs for a variety of
systems. In the sheet metal portion, the students will study the
basic theory and related information along with hands-on shop
practice which will enable students to become competent in
fabricating basic sheet metal products. All of these skills as well as
introducing the students to the Air Conditioning components of the
mechanical trades, will prepare the students to enter into post
secondary trades programming or directly into an apprenticeship
in a number of trade areas.

Electrical Fundamentals
Sem 2
TNC4T
This course will introduce the student to the basic theory of
electricity and to the electrical test instruments used throughout
industry. Using Ohm’s and Watts law the students will interpret
electrical calculations and be exposed to troubleshooting electrical
test boards and project. Where group work is involved,
evaluations of group members will be included. Project work will
enable students to practice the interpretation of electrical wiring,
pictorial and schematic diagrams, and to apply safe practices, in
typical HRAC industry work environments. Project work will
replicate typical job work orders.

Exploring Welding
Sem 2
TLA4T
This course will introduce the student to the basic concepts
of Oxy-Fuel Welding (OFW), Brazing (OFB) and Cutting
(OFC), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and the Gas
Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process. Theory class will cover
the safe setup and working practices of these processes as
well as introduce the student to the fundamental concepts
involved in each process operation. The shop component
will see the student implement safe working practices along
with skills development in the area of OFW, OFB, OFC,
SMAW and the GMAW process. Students will practice the
butt, lap and t-joint on mild steel using the above welding
processes and use the OFC process to make straight and
bevel cuts, pierce holes and cut shapes out of mild steel
plate. Students will learn about the required equipment and
demonstrate proper and safe setup procedures.
