BHSU
to
Offer Women’s Soccer
in
2016
Beginning in fall 2016, BHSU will field its first-ever women’s soccer team.
“Adding a women’s soccer team is good for BHSU and good for the entire region,” said BHSU President
Tom Jackson, Jr. “Providing an opportunity for intercollegiate soccer competition will bring additional
students to BHSU and create opportunities for exceptional female soccer players to compete with the Yellow
Jackets.”
“We are extremely excited to be adding women’s soccer to our University and Yellow Jackets athletic
department,” said athletic director Jhett Albers. “To continue to address our gender equity plan and
compliance with Title IX, we feel that women’s soccer is a viable sport with much support in our
community, in our conference, and throughout the region.”

Ethan Engel, art and graphic design communication
major from Winner, takes others through his journey
with autism in an art exhibit that opened last week at
the Matthews Opera House in Spearfish. The exhibit
runs through Feb. 28.
Engel recently returned from a trip to Washington,
D.C. where a piece of his artwork from the
“Transcendence” collection was selected for the

exhibition that provides young artists the opportunity
to display their work. Engel’s submission, “Overcast,”

“Transcendence: The Journey of Autism,” tells the
story of Engel’s struggle with Asperger’s, a form of high functioning autism.
“Starting here at BHSU I wanted to become an artist, but I wasn’t sure where I was going with it. When I
brought my life with autism into my work, it brought such positive feedback to the people around me. For
me to develop to this next level, I’m proud. I’m showing my leadership skills.”
Ad By BHSU Student Shown Regionally During Super Bowl
BHSU student Bryce Boser meets with President Jackson to
discuss his winning entry in the “Where Anything is Possible”
marketing contest. Boser’s ad played regionally during the
Super Bowl.
Bryce Boser, mass communication major from
Box Elder, won a University marketing contest and
his winning ad aired regionally during the Super
Bowl.
One of 12 finalists in the “Where Anything
is Possible” marketing tagline contest at BHSU,
Boser’s ad features several outdoor and campus
scenes captured using his wearable action camera.
The contest provided students an opportunity
to design marketing concepts to launch the
University’s new tagline. A panel of nine judges, all
BHSU alumni from across the nation working in the
marketing field, evaluated the finalists’ entries.
President Jackson said the contest was so
successful that plans are being made to extend the
contest into an annual event.

Sting wears her “I Hate Cancer” T-shirt in
support of cancer survivors.
“I hate cancer,” President Jackson said. “I hate cancer
because that terrible disease took my father away from me.”
In January, BHSU designated a doubleheader basketball
game as “I Hate Cancer” Night. T-shirts were sold in a
variety of colors to honor and support those diagnosed with
cancer.
“It’s such a widespread, ugly disease,” said Jordan Bauer,
assistant women’s basketball coach at BHSU whose father
passed away from colon cancer. “This is a way to bring
everyone together and fight for the same reason.”
Over $3,000 was raised during “‘I Hate Cancer’ Night
to benefit the Dennis Bauer Family Scholarship Memorial
Endowment. Dennis Bauer, the father of Jordan Bauer,
coached high school basketball for 17 years.
