employment experiences.

China recently.

is spending the summer
at Johns Hopkins in
Baltimore, the Centers
for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) in
Atlanta, and Sanford
Medical Center in
Sioux Falls as part of a
prestigious public health
initiative.
Scholar-Athletes Record
Impressive GPAs
BHSU is the perfect
place for the scholarathlete to excel on the
field, the court and
in the classroom. The
overall total combined
grade point average
(GPA) for BHSU scholarathletes is nearly 3.0 for
the 2014-2015 academic
year, exceeding the
academic eligibility
requirements set by the
Kotelman
NCAA Division II and
the overall average for BHSU students.
The BHSU women’s basketball team has the
highest average GPA among all the Yellow Jacket
teams with a 3.559, followed by women’s cross
country with a 3.398 and women’s track outdoor
with a 3.364.
Cassidy Kotelman, biology major from
Brookings, is one of 230 BHSU students who
participated in athletics during the 2014-2015
academic year.

National Competition
BHSU business students competed in the Enactus United States National Competition recently
in St. Louis, Mo., bringing home a trophy for advancing to the competition quarter-finals.
Enactus is an international organization that brings together student, academic and business
leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to shape a better, more
sustainable world. Enactus National Competitions are dramatic, energy-filled events where
Enactus teams present their projects and are evaluated by business leaders serving as judges.
BHSU Faculty Welcome Sinte Gleska
Students for Biotechnology Training
Students from Sinte Gleska Tribal College on the
Rosebud Reservation visited BHSU recently for a weeklong biotechnology boot camp as part of a NASA EPSCoR
grant.
Working under the mentorship of BHSU faculty, the
students learned bioinformatics tools and DNA extraction
procedures using water and soil samples collected from
the Rosebud Reservation. The goal of the week-long
intensive was to provide hands-on experience with lab
equipment to supplement research the students will
continue throughout the summer.

underway at BHSU with
three plays presented
throughout the month of
June.
A Black Hills tradition,
the community helps with
costumes and choreography.
More than 20 local children
participate in the musical.
Student actors build sets,
rehearse, and perform
providing a true professional
theatre experience for
the college students and
audience members.
President Invited to Speak
at National Gathering of
College Presidents
President Jackson will be a featured speaker
during a special session at the American
Association of State Colleges and Universities
(AASCU) national Summer Council of
Presidents next month in Denver.
Jackson will share reflections on his first year
as BHSU President during the special session
for new college presidents from across the
United States.
