I guess it's sinking in for all of us that I'm really leaving. I have been waiting for this day to come for the past eighteen years and now that it's actually here I'm excited, nervousand hopeful all at the same time. On one hand I have a huge list of fears: I'm scared that classes will be too hard, I won't make any friends, my friends at home will forget me, my boyfriend and I won't make it, my roommate will hate me, I'll gain the "freshman fifteen", I'll run out of money, and I'll lose my California tan. But my mom has always taught me to trust in fate and so far that's worked for me. I already have a great job, a roommate I have everything in common with, and have even found the local tanning booth. While all of my friends have stayed local, I'm ready for a change from the home I've always known. OSU is a college out of my dreams. Big school in a little town with old brick buildings, not to mention how much friendlier everyoneseems up there. It's the perfect place to spend the best four years of my life. My best friend may not be going with me, but I know I'll make new friends. My classes may be hard, but I'm ready for the challenge. So; I spent a bitter-sweet last visit with each of my friends, went to the beach one last time, and traded in my flip-flops for boots. I guess you can say I'm ready for Oregon. Question is: is Oregon ready for me? 9/21/2009 12:55 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_091405.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Sept 14, 2005) One last In-N-Out burger, 10 CDs, and 972 miles later and I'm in Corvallis. My boyfriend Andy and I drove through town past lawn games and porches full of orange t-shirts. We were officially in OSU. Guys barbequing in the front yard shouted "go beavers!" as we drove past. Down one of the most crowded streets we stopped at Andy's house to drop off his stuff. Three of his seven roommates ran past us, also sporting the OSU colors, to get tickets to the first game of the season. What a perfect day to land at OSU and meet the whole town at once. Which is why I was less then thrilled that my kind-hearted mother arranged for us to have dinner at one of her elderly friend's houses that night just out of town and just out of the chaos of the big game. When we got back into town the next morning it had died down considerably. His roommates had gone home for the weekend, the neighbors had disappeared from their porches, the ping pong table was upside down, and in fact; all that was left of the night before were a few red cups scattered around the street. We spent the rest of the weekend shopping for food and some essentials we hadn't thought of (like soap). One final hug goodbye from my mom (who flew out for the weekend) and I am on my own until Christmas. Today I started my first day of work on campus. It seems like it might be tough at times, but everyone there was really nice and willing to help me. From there I headed to my residence hall to finally move into my dorm room. The place was deserted. I'm two weeks early, so there wasn't even an RA. I unpacked my stuff as fast as I could and then booked it out of there. So my first night at the dorms didn't go quite as planned, seeing that I'm at a friend's house again for the third night in a row. I can't wait until this town is packed again like it was on the first day. But for now (at least until school starts) I sit in Dutch Bros. for about the tenth time in four days with my laptop and coffee watching the orange go by. 9/21/2009 12:56 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_091705.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Sept 17, 2005) I went to the bookstore the other day and was so excited to finally get my first set of college text books. It means I'm really a college student! Before I came up here I was a little nervous about the food, but I soon found out campus food is great. It's just like a bunch of restaurants put together where I can special order all I want. Work has been great, I really like everyone in the office. I'm the only freshman, but they've all been helping me out left-and-right to make everything easier. We've already had a work party and are planning a sleepover and shopping trip in Eugene in the near future. I finished setting up my room yesterday and even though only my half is done it looks so much better. I can't wait until my roommate moves in this weekend so I can finally meet her. We started talking on the OSU website and we've seem to really hit it off, but I still haven't met her in person. All of the RA's have been so nice and all know me by name- probably because I was the only resident in the building for two weeks. But not anymore! As I was in my room I heard voices coming down the hall. I might've been a bit too enthusiastic that I finally had someone to talk to because they looked a little scared when I ran out of my room to talk to them. This weekend the whole hall should move in, so I'll be leaving my door permanently open to meet the new neighbors. The RA's promised all of the quiet disappears once people move in, but honestly: I can't wait. 9/21/2009 12:56 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_092305.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Sept 23, 2005) There are new people next door, across the hall, in the bathroom, and in my room! [The rest of the residents in my hall are] all moved in. I don’t think the rest of my hall is quite as excited as I am though. I’ve left my door permanently open, trying to catch everyone that goes by. My roommate moved in a few days ago. It’s a little weird to be sharing a room with someone I’ve never met before. The first day was awkward as we sat in the room, looking around, trying to find something to talk about. But I like her and hope we turn out to be good friends. It’s hard to get used to the dorms at first. A whole hall full of people I’ve never met. Coming from an all-girl highschool the co-ed living arrangement is definitely strange. And then there are the doors that automatically lock when you close them. I learned that one the hard way after my first shower. I stood in the hall holding my shampoo in just a towel not quite sure what to do. I had to go knock on my RA’s door to let me in. I went on a footsteps rock-climbing trip for freshman earlier this week and I’m so glad I did. We all got along great. I got 25 new friends, a yoga buddy and someone to do laundry with out of it. Andy’s house has been perfect, too. The past few nights we’ve just been eating dinner at his house and everyone will start calling to say they’re just coming over until they find something to do. Before we know it, the house is packed and half of the people I’ve never even seen before- it’s great! I can’t wait until Monday. It may sound crazy, but I really want classes to start. I’m so curious what they’re going to be like. I guess the enthusiasm will probably die down when I have to start writing papers. I was skeptical at first, but now I know that was stupid. I love it here and I’m already having such a good time. I’m so glad I came because OSU is perfect for me. 9/21/2009 12:56 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_093005.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Sept 30, 2005) It's finally Friday! I am done with my first week of school. It was so different from highschool. I walked into my first class of the day and was shocked to see that it was a two-story auditorium. Definitely a bit overwhelming. Then on to math where I practically had a nervous breakdown. I didn't remember anything and had no idea what the teacher was talking about. I know I'm going to have to work really hard to get through that class. I've never played tennis before but I decided to take a class anyway. I even went as far as to sign up for a team. Last night my roommate and I went out with some friends to a high-lighter party. We all wore white t-shirts and brought our high-lighters with us. The writing glowed great under the black lights set up all over the house. Today there was a fair in the quad for all the clubs and restaurants. Not only did Andy and I eat all of the food in sight (from pizza to Chinese food to ice cream), but I also signed up for every club at the schoolincluding a woman's football league and the Vietnamese Cultural Society. I figure this way I'll meet all kinds of people. My roommate's leaving this weekend so it looks like I'll be all alone again. But that's alright, I'm looking forward to nice long weekend of practicing calculus and my backhand. 9/21/2009 12:57 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_101105.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Oct 11, 2005) With homework and pop-quizzes this week of school has definitely been tougher then the last. Math is the class that has been killing me the most, which doesn’t make any sense because I already took the exact class in highschool. I asked around and most other people are having trouble too, so we’ve planned to all help each other out and have a huge study session before the tests. I just realized today that my first mid-term is in exactly a week, which is a little scary considering I don’t really know what is going on in most of my classes. I also made the biggest freshman mistake ever this week. I was sure my math recitation was at 3:30, so I did a little studying before hand and headed over early to talk to the TA. Well the door was stuck, so I made a huge scene banging and hitting it trying to get in. I finally flew into the class as everyone stared and two thoughts went through my head: 1) "Man, the class must of started at 3:00," and 2) "I remember a lot more girls in my class." Oh well, I thought, as I muttered excuse me and tried getting to the only seat available in the middle of the classroom. That’s when the people around me started snickering. I looked up and realized that it wasn’t my TA. I asked if it was math 251. I was in an engineering classroom. Everyone was laughing as I turned beet red and ran out of the class (not before fighting with the broken door again). On the bright side, my roommate and I have been getting along great. We even went to a toga party together and had so much fun getting ready for it. Next week her best friend and her roommate are coming over for a girl’s night complete with pizza and chick flicks, it’ll be a nice break from studying. I finally feel settled. My room’s messy, I don’t get to sleep until past midnight every night, there’s a coffee cup permanently glued to my hand, and I never have free time. I can tell that I’m fitting into college life just perfectly. 9/21/2009 12:57 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_101805.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Oct 18, 2005) So much to do and so little time! One of the exciting things I've just learned about here at OSU; there's always something going on. I found out there are lectures for free on every subject one could imagine. This week I went to one on levitation in the middle ages (random, I know). I tried to get to another one on modern day marriages, but had to go to church for a philosophy paper instead. My roommate, Corey, her best friend and I had a girl's night on Monday complete with pizza and chick flicks. That is until the guys down the hall decided to crash it, claiming they wanted to watch The Notebook. Corey and one of Andy's roommates have started seeing each other, which is fun because the four of us can hang out. Even better though, they have a history of film class together. So, Tuesday night Andy and I popped popcorn and tagged along for a silent vampire horror movie. My first midterm is on Monday, there's so much to retain I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm determined to do good. Everything in college is just how it should be. I only have one complaint; there are simply not enough hours in the day. 9/21/2009 12:57 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_102405.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Oct 24, 2005) Although I studied all weekend, my first midterm was a bit tougher then I thought it would be. But I’ve been turning in all of the homework so hopefully I’ll be alright. Then next week is my religion test which I’ve heard you have to be the Buddha himself to pass. My roommate and I went out and bought an exercise ball so that we can get a six pac from the comfort of our very own dorm. I think we may have used it twice, but it’s nice to know it’s there. Thursday night Andy and his roommates through a techno party. It was great, complete with cheesy music and glow sticks. Monday night I cooked my first dinner since I came up here. It turned out pretty good, I was surprised it didn’t even burn. I’ve also requested my best friend’s mom to fed ex me a cake, not for lack of junk food up here, but for lack of home cooked junk food. Believe it or not weekends around here are kind of quiet. A lot of people go home (including my roommate once a month). But next weekend is Halloween and I can’t wait, it’s going to be so much fun. My favorite holiday, and all the right colors too. 9/21/2009 12:58 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_103005.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Oct 30, 2005) Halloween weekend! Okay, so Halloween is really next Monday, but this week was when the festivities started. Monday eight of us squeezed into Dustin’s tiny station wagon to buy pumpkins at WinCo. After squeezing the eight of us back into the station wagon (this time with nine pumpkins) we went to Andy’s to carve them out. Dinner on Tuesday with Laurie (the best lady ever) and two of her co-workers. We had pizza American Dream, the local hang out. Thursday morning I had a philosophy midterm. Luckily Andy’s roommate, Brenden, is in the same class so the two of us decided to study together. Probably a bad idea since we ended up goofing off instead of actually doing any studying. Needless to say, it was probably the hardest test of my life. I dropped tennis this week too. Hard to believe, but it was my hardest class! I was the worst one in the class, nobody even wanted to play me. When I found out we were actually graded on skill I decided I should probably drop versus getting a bad grade and bringing down my entire GPA. For Halloween Andy and my friend Joey dressed up as Axel and Slash from Guns ‘N Roses. So Corey, Becky and I were their 80's groupies. Friday night we got all dressed up in fishnets and red lipstick and went to the Haunted Catacombs under Sackett Hall. Then last night after teasing our hair again, we went to the Sigma Nu house for a costume party. I think my entire hall was there, it was so much fun. Today Becky, Corey and I went shopping in Salem for the day. Seeing as it was the first time I had been shopping in two months I had been shopping I went a little crazy. That is until Corey and Becky said they were sick of waiting for me to try on everything in every store. That is definitely one thing I miss from home. I guess I may miss my family a little now and then too. 9/21/2009 12:58 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_111705.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Nov 17, 2005) I never thought the day would come I would actually miss my family. But it happened. This past weekend was Dad's Weekend, but my whole family decided to come. And today for the first time, now that the loud boisterous four are gone, I really miss them. The weekend started with Corey and I giving our room a good thorough cleaning for the first time since we've moved in. But disaster struck before our very eyes as we took out the piles of trash we had laying about. As I picked up the first bag it split right down the middle spilling wet trash all over our nice clean room. There are no paper towels in the bathroom, but I scrounged out a roll of toilet paper. We did our best to mop up the floor before heading to the airport to pick up my mom and sister. They got off the plane and my mom was nagging I was too thin as my sister behind her complained about the cold. Man, I missed them. Since everything my family does is based around food, we did nothing but cook the entire night (except for earlier when I was introducing them both to Calabaloo's french fries). Saturday Andy and I took them to the football game. Frustrated by the result of the first half and cold from the weather we left during half time and headed back to (gasp) eat my mom's great chili. Then that night we picked up my brother and brought him back to Andy's house to experience the college life. Sunday my dad made his famously good tri-tip. I think that might be the thing I miss the most. As I sat around the kitchen table listening to my mom's embarrassing laugh, my dad's lame jokes, and my sister yelling because my brother wouldn't stop annoying her, I thought; I sure do miss them. 9/21/2009 12:59 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_112705.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Nov 27, 2005) I was highly disappointed last week. See, I thought dead week meant classes were dead, as in we didn't have any. But I was wrong, I guess "dead week" is the clever nickname the school came up with to describe the week before finals where one appears "dead" from over-exhaustion. One would think I would have set up a study schedule to help in the fast-approaching finals week, but really I haven't. I have been attempt ing to open a book, but it seems every time I do Family Guy will come on and Corey will force me (against my will may I add) to sit down and watch with her. Now, with my first test tomorrow, a bit of stress is setting in. My hall is hosting finals week preparation classes with cramming and test taking tips, plus de-stressing programs which include such things as pilates and stress balls. I will definitely be taking advantage of those. But as for now Family Guy is coming on and with respect to tradition I have to go keep Corey company. After that: nothing but studying, I promise. 9/21/2009 12:59 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_010406.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Jan. 4, 2006) The Wednesday during finals week I couldn't sleep. Whether it was due to test stress, boyfriend troubles or being nervous about coming home I'm unsure. With my mom in Europe and it being three in the morning I felt completely alone without a soul in the world to talk to. I grabbed my favorite book and plopped down on a sofa in the dorm lounge for a long sleepless night. I had barely read three pages when in walked Ben, the guy down the hall. He said I looked upset and asked if I needed someone to talk to. Before I knew it I was telling him every little thing that had been going wrong. Going wrong with Andy, with classes, being scared of not fitting in at home, not being settled in enough at school, and never having a single second alone anywhere. I then quickly shut up--realizing I had spilled my entire heart to someone I hardly knew. Ben actually looked relieved. Seems we were going through the exact same stuff. At six I finally laid down, feeling a lot better and before I knew it was asleep. My first night home was a bit of a shocker. My room had been transformed, my pictures taken down and my sister's put up, her stuffed animals on my bed and her television in the corner. Not quite the welcome home I was expecting. As I started hanging out with my friends again I realized how much we had all changed from each other. Besides my best friend, Steevie, we didn't have much to talk about. They all had new friends and new boyfriends and new lives I was no longer a part of. During Christmas break I've realized something. College is a bit like going through puberty all over again, minus the acne. There's this confused awkward feeling of not belonging anywhere. I know that even though I feel completely alone and like no one understands, for the most part everyone else is going through the same thing. My first term at college has left me, not only with more information but a lot more questions then I started out with. I think Robert Gohen said it best, "If you feel that you have both feet planted on solid ground then the university has failed you." 9/21/2009 12:53 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_011706.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Jan. 17, 2006) Back to school! I was actually ready for school to start, excited to sit in class with pencil in hand, eager to fill my head with all sorts of knowledge. One week later, I’m barely alive. I am highly regretting my full course load. I can’t keep any of my classes straight at all! Free time is now a thing of the past, I’ve never had this much homework in my entire life! But I love all of my classes and can’t choose one to drop, so looks like I’m stuck. Andy, Corey, Becky, and Nick are just a few of my friends in my human sexuality class making it a complete giggle fest for the hour and a half that we’re in there . My astronomy class is so exciting- it’s my first class in a college style room with the slanted aisles, just like in the movies. Anthropology is a little disappointing though, I was looking forward to that class the most, but it’s a lot different th an any other class I’ve ever had: there’s no teacher, we just watch movies the entire time. I guess I’ll have to get used to it. Always the dutiful college student, I even managed to attend a few good parties this weekend. It’s a little colder then I remember it being, I have to get used to not wearing my sandals anymore. But, besides that, not a thing has changed about my beautiful college campus. The girls next door still run up and down the hall screaming, Corey still talks in her sleep, and the guys from Dutch Bros. still ask the exact same questions every time I go in there. Yep, Corvallis is exactly how it should be. Exactly how I love it. 9/21/2009 12:53 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_012306.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Jan. 23, 2006) I can’t believe it! It seems like we just got back here at school and I already have two mid-terms next Monday! I guess that’s just one of the perks of being on a quarter system. I sort of like it though, it doesn’t give me a chance to fall behind, which I know I would otherwise. So just when I was getting excited that all of the parties were starting back up again, I have to focus my brain and sit down to actually learn something. Man, what do these professors think college is about anyways? I’m just kidding, actually I am completely excited to finally be learning something again. I am trying to decide what I want to double major in: anthropology or astronomy? On one hand ever since I was five, I have imagined myself as an Egyptian princess, but then again I did always promise my parents I would be the first person on Mars. Oh, it’s such a dilemma. Sunday night we finally got back into the groove of things and had our weekly tradition of Family Guy at Andy’s house. I think tomorrow night Corey and I are going to have a milk chugging contest to see who throws up first. And Friday Andy's house is having their first big party of the term. After that it's time to buckle down and hit the books like a good college student. But it's so tough when all I want to do is have fun. 9/21/2009 12:53 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_012906.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Jan. 29, 2006) The wind outside is howling, my phone keeps ringing, and I am trying so hard to study right now but it is just not happening. My mind keeps on wondering to all that has happened over the week. Human Sexuality on Tuesday was definitely an interesting place. As the teacher was lecturing a voice from the balcony above kept yelling out rude comments. No one could see who it was, but he sure made himself heard. We heard his elaborate vocabulary mixed with crashing noises and another student yelling at him to be quiet. Thursday we discovered what the problem was. Apparently he had shown up drunk to the class (which wasn’t his), and kept dropping his fifth while asking the students around him to take shots with him. He came back to our class to formally apologize to us all. College sure does have its interesting moments. Thursday night I went to my first OSU basketball game. It was so intense. We were playing USC, a school so close to home that I was convinced we HAD to beat them. Well it went back and forth the entire time, went to overtime, and in the last three seconds they scored the winning point. Andy and I left the game disheartened and sad. Friday night Andy and the boys had a party at their house, we had a good time. Today I have a study session for my math midterm. We have good intentions, but I know it’ll end up like it always does, we’ll get distracted and start talking about everything but school. Hopefully we’ll get down our sigma notations with our gossip. 9/21/2009 12:54 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_021706.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Feb. 17, 2006) Busy, busy, busy seems to be my motto the past few weeks. Two weeks ago I went home with my roommate Corey, to the smallest little town I've ever seen. Athena, a little place situated near Pendleton, has just as many people as my high school! But though it was small, I had a good time meeting her mom and enjoyed the Super Bowl chili. Last weekend my mom decided to come up just because she missed me. Three whole days of nothing but cooking and getting a scrap book done for Andy's Valentine's Day present. It was really good to see her because I probably won't again until Mom's Weekend in May. My family and I have always been really close so it seems weird to be going that long between seeing them. I think it might be possible that I've missed them more this second term then I did the first one. This weekend is going to definitely be a blast. Last night I drove up to Portland and picked Ashley and Chris (Andy and my best friends). So of course the second we got into Corvallis I had to take them to their first OSU party. We went to a house named "The Zoo". A live out for one of the fraternities on campus. Ashley's only been here a little over twelve hours and I think she is already a fan. Little does she know but I am trying to convince her to come here next year. So later today I am taking her on a tour of the campus to see all of the Oregon State highlights. Dutch Bros coffee, Reeser Stadium, the beautiful MU, Weatherford Hall, and American Dream Pizza are just a few of the stops on today's schedule. I know once she sees all of my beloved school she has to fall in love with it as much as I did. 9/21/2009 12:54 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_030306.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Mar. 3, 2006) Well, after my first D on a math test I came to the vast decision that maybe being a math major isn't exactly my calling. I don't know what happened, I studied, pulled an all-nighter, and then just bombed it. I decided to switch to pre-med, realizing that being a doctor would be far more interesting then a math teacher. Luckily I don't think it's going to be too hard to switch since I'm still a freshman. I met with my advisor who got me set up in the classes that I'm going to need to be taking. Sadly, this means that next year will be spent taking nothing but biology, chemistry, and physics- quite an exciting load. Winter term seemed to just fly by. I can't believe it is already March! However, all that this means to us students is that it is time to once again lock ourselves into our rooms and stick our heads in our books dreading our finals as the end of the term looms nearer. Personally, I can't wait until Spring. Warm weather and sun, barbeques, parties, mom's weekend, baseball games, it's going to be great. The weather is actually getting a lot better too. I am so glad to finally be out of that winter drag and to finally get to see the stars at night again. But despite what I heard, it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. My friend Ashley and Andy's friend Chris came up from California two weekends ago to visit. It was so good to see them again. Little does Ashley know, but I am actually trying to convince her to come here next year. Just like me, she absolutely loved the campus, especially the beautiful MU. She wants to come up again in April, I knew the second she saw it she would be absolutely hooked, who couldn't be with such a cool school like OSU? 9/21/2009 12:54 PM 1 of 1 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy_031706.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title.''; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Mar. 17, 2006) I had thought that I miraculously skipped over the freshman flu that everyone is said to get, but alas, the stuffy nose and swollen throat have set in and are threatening to stay through finals week, much to my delight. Speaking of finals, I’m lucky enough to only have three this term with only one that I am truly worried about seeing as my math teacher decided to teach us brand new material on our last day of class rather then review for the accumulative final. There are many sleepless nights ahead of me. Today, being St. Patrick’s Day, is one of those sleepless nights, but not because of studying! College students with green hats and smiling faces will be filling the streets moving from party to party and I fully intend to be one of them. Corey (my roommate) and I are really excited lately. The landlord of my boyfriend’s run down eight room house has decided to let us girls take over next year. So far, there are six of us, mostly girls from our hall in Callahan, and it seems to be all that we can talk about. Over the summer we will be taking down the bachelor pad decorations and pink will be covering the walls. It makes Andy cringe when I talk about it. I cannot wait to have a place I can actually call my home. Spring break is coming soon, but instead of the Cancun trip that many of my classmates are doing, I’m going to be going down to Mississippi for a Hurricane Katrina clean-up. I found out about it by a sign I saw somewhere on campus. I’m really looking forward to doing something useful with my time off. But for the weekend ahead my mind will be with my books (hopefully) and I will be studying profusely for the dreadful next five days they refer to as “Finals Week”. 9/21/2009 12:55 PM 1 of 2 file:///S:/MACD/Marketing/TempFolder/blog_archive/blog_katy.php OSU Home » UHDS » Future Students » Blogs » '.$s_title; ?> Katy's Blog Katy from Pasadena, California - (Apr. 27, 2006) Just when I think that each season is the most beautiful on the OSU campus I am proved wrong once again. Summer was nice with its dark greens and warm heat, but fall was gorgeous once all the leaves turned red and orange (which blended well with the colors of the football team), I even liked cold frosty winter, with the dark mossy tree trunks and bare branches. But spring has got to be the best. I think every type of flower there is has to be in bloom on campus: giant white bushes and trees with pink flowers, yellow daffodils and tulips of every color. Even the lawn has scattered dandelions (which Andy refers to as "weeds"). All of this beauty is accompanied by fraternity brothers playing frisbee, girls lying out in the grass and the smell of a bar-be-que somewhere in the distance. Yes, spring is finally here. With all the new-ness of the spring season I've been trying out a few new things also. I sadly realized that I was not involved in anything, which by definition makes me a failure as a college student. So, I joined the on campus honors club which will have its first meeting next week, it is a club completely devoted to community service and good grades, something I hope I can combine. I wrote a local non-profit organization that deals with AIDS patients about helping out and they were willing to send me as much information as I needed. In the fall I get to start taking calls from the hotline and (hopefully) go to schools to raise awareness to highschool and college students. Tuesday night I went to a game night at a sorority to check out that part of social life. I'm not sure if I'm going to join but I figure even if I don't at least I'll make some good friends out of it. Then last night I went with my friend Jennifer to her church for college night to hear hering and meet some of her friends. Since every college student needs to be active in some aspect of the community I'm hoping that all of this will lead me to my calling.
