Fire District 6 stages mock crash
Fire District 6 firefighters on the scene of a mock crash
At 9 a.m. Thursday morning, Fire District 6 participated in a mock drunk- driving crash at
Columbia River High School. The simulated accident was meant to give students a first hand look
at the dangers of drinking and driving.
Today's exercise involved Fire District 6, American Medical Response, and the Clark County
Sheriff's Office. Four students from Columbia River High School were victims. Firefighterparamedics used the Jaws of Life to pull accident victims, complete with fake blood, out of the
vehicles.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 20 percent of teens involved in
traffic crashes in 2006 were under the influence of alcohol. Automobile accidents are the top
cause of death for teens in the United States.
The school’s prom is in two weeks.
Members of Lacamas Medical Group return from Haiti
Scott Jonason in Haiti
Lacamas Medical Group, with of support of the community and in conjunction with Project
Helping Hands, raised enough money to send three people to Haiti.
In March, Scott Jonason, PA-C, Jenn Kauffman, MA, and Justine Mings, RN traveled to Haiti
for two weeks. Another provider at the practice, Dr. Tan Pinney, also recently went to the
Caribbean country on a service trip.
When the team arrived, they set up their first street clinic in one of the many tents cities that had
popped up around the city following the earthquake.
They treated more than 1,000 patients. They also provided food and temporary shelter for
families struggling to recover.
"Honestly, from the outside looking in, it looks like we barely scratched the surface. We had to
take solace in the fact that we could only help those who were in front of us. And that we did,"
says Jonason.
On Monday, May 17, the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce recognized Lacamas
Medical Group, 2027 NW Sierra Lane in Camas, as its Local Business Feature. The CW
