SCHOLARSHIP
REQUIREMENTS:
 Enrolled in an engineering or architecture program leading to a BS degree or
equivalent.
 AND Undergraduate class standing of sophomore, junior or senior
 AND Attending The University of Idaho, Idaho State University or Boise State
University
 OR A son or daughter of a SAME Gem State Post member having undergraduate
class standing of sophomore, junior or senior enrolled in an engineering or
architecture program leading to a BS degree or equivalent at any accredited
university
SELECTION BASED ON:
 Involvement in university and community programs
 Academic standing - GPA
 Response to Scholarship Essay
AWARDS:
 One $750 scholarship and two $500 scholarships
 Student membership in SAME
 Military Engineering Familiarization at Mountain Home Air Force Base
(accommodations paid for)
SUBMIT:
Applications can be submitted via email or hard copy.
 Statement of extra-curricular activities from applicant
 Letter of recommendation from school official in the engineering/achrictecure
department
 Copy of an official transcript
 Scholarship Essay—see topic below

SAME Scholarship Essay
Provide a typewritten or word processed essay, 12-point font maximum of two
pages on the following topic:
Provide an essay addressing the following question: “What do you think the
Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry will change over the next 5-10 years?
Describe how you see architecture, engineering and/or construction projects changing
from what they were in year 2013 to 5-10 years from now. Support your position by
exploring a current global trend. Example current global trends may be one of the
following but are certainly not limited to the following:
-
Renewable Energies
Lower Engineering Enrollment in U.S. Schools
Global Population Growth, Climate Change
U.S. Federal Debt Obligations
Emergence of China (or other BRIC nations) as a Global Power
Environmental Protection Awareness
Growing Focus on Energy Conservation/Efficiency
Completed essay is to be included in the scholarhip submission and e-mailed
or hard copy mailed to the listed scholarship point of contact.
