A World of Opportunity: Winston-Salem State University Using Technology to Leverage International Partnerships All universities develop international partnerships. Yet the majority of those relationship go under-utilized in large part due to a lack of financial resources and interest necessary to travel to far off lands. Through the use of technology those partnerships can be leveraged to provide more opportunities for both students and faculty to engage internationally and develop the skills and attitudes necessary to thrive in a global, multicultural society. Since 2004, East Carolina University has been engaged in technology based international education. Since that time, we have gone from offering one international course with one partner to working with over 50 partner institutions in over 30 countries to offer approximately 20 fully collaborative classes per semester as well as modules in a number of other classes. Additionally, we work with our partners to offer activities for our students and faculty to engage beyond the classroom. This brief presentation will identify some of the major activities we are engaged with and identify key challenges and benefits associated with technology based international education.
