Special emphasis on training room supervision, legal liability, injury, insurance claims, record keeping, budgeting, rehabilitation and injury recognition. Attendance Requirements: A. Students should make every effort to attend all class meetings. All absences must be explained to the satisfaction of the instructor who will decide whether the omitted work may be made up. Any student who misses twenty–five (25%) or more of the regularly scheduled class meetings will receive a grade of F for that course. B. Work due when a student is scheduled to be absent for any reason should be turned-in before the class meets. LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR PLANNED ABSENCES, INCLUDING ATHLETIC EVENTS. If you are ill or have an unplanned absence, all work must be turned-in BEFORE the next class meeting. 15. Scenario Reflections – will assess competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 a. 10 scenarios (2 for each domain) will be posted on a Blackboard discussion board b. Read and consider the problem. Prepare a short response (around ½ page in APA formatted text) to the scenario questions. Include – and cite – research to support your ideas. i. 1 due each week; due date is posted at end of scenario c. After you post your thoughts. Read the other responses. Prepare a brief reflection (around 2-3 sentences) to each original posting. i. 1 due for each original posting; due date is 2 weeks (excluding Spring Break) after original posting due date. d. Refer to rubric for grading criteria e. 10, Worth 20 points each B. Injury Reports – will assess competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 a. Each student will complete 10 mock injury reports b. Reports should be completed on the provided mock injury report forms in Blackboard c. 1 due at the start of class each week starting 3-Feb. d. 10, each worth 10 points C. Article Summaries – will assess competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 a. Any topic related to the field of athletic training b. Primary references – describing original research performed by the authors and published in a peer-reviewed professional research journal i. At least 2 articles from each of the 5 Athletic Training Practice Domains ii. Any article that does not qualify as original research or from a peerreviewed research journal will be summarily returned without grading. iii. Wikipedia is NOT allowed in any academic work – citation of Wikipedia will result in a loss of 30 points on this assignment. c. Submission should be 2 pages: i. 1st page = cover sheet ii. 2nd page: 1. At start of page, include a properly formatted (APA) citation to your selected article 2. Include a 3-5 sentence summary of the article 3. Fill rest of page with your reaction to the article (no more than 1 page) d. Use APA format – after several format or grammar errors, the submission will be returned ungraded for editing and may be re-submitted within 48 hours for ½ credit e. Summary should be saved in a Microsoft Word compatible file (.doc or .docx preferred) and emailed to the instructor before class on the due date f. 1 due each week starting 3-Feb g. 10, worth 10 points D. Professional Folder 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 a. Will include activities from entire year. Will turn in on final class meeting. You will keep this folder to help you in your career. Please keep this in mind as you are completing the assignments. b. Refer to rubric for list of required items. c. Is considered a final course project. Worth 100 points E. Examinations – will assess competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 a. Written examinations are posted on Blackboard b. Practical examinations will be scheduled as appropriate c. Graded as Pass/Fail (at least 70% to pass), may retake test after review time d. Must pass all tests to complete course F. 500 Total Points Possible A: 450-500 points B: fewer than 450 points C: fewer than 400 points D: fewer than 350 points F: fewer than 300 points, or do not complete/pass all exams, or absent at least 25% of class meetings F. Grade Appeals: Students shall have protection through orderly procedures against prejudices or capricious academic evaluation. A student who believes that he or she has not been held to realistic academic standards, just evaluation procedures, or appropriate grading, may appeal the final grade given in the course by using the student grade appeal process described in the Academic Catalog. Appeals may not be made for advanced placement examinations or course bypass examinations. Appeals are limited to the final course grade, which may be upheld, raised, or lowered at any stage of the appeal process. Any recommendation to lower a course grade must be submitted through the Executive Vice President/Provost to the Faculty Assembly Grade Appeals Committee for review and approval.
