at Wayland?
Here are just a few of the latest happenings:
n Wayland’s Men’s Track Team brought home
its first ever Outdoor National Championship from
the 2010 competition.
n A $250,000 endowment from the James A.
“Buddy” Davidson Foundation of Midland will make
overseas travel easier for students through the
Wayland Mission Center.
n Wayland Theatre held its fifth production at
Ruidoso’s Spencer Theater with the dramatic play
The Elephant Man in June.
n The School of Nursing at Wayland earned
full accreditation from the National League of Nursing
Accreditation Commission after graduating its first
class with a 100 percent pass rate on the licensure
exam. The program continues to grow.
n Students and employees in the past year
have traveled to England, Jordan, Turkey, Australia,
Japan, Mexico, Macedonia, Kosovo, Kenya, India,
Costa Rica, Spain and Ecuador as well as all over the
United States for missions and study endeavors
through the Wayland Mission Center, Baptist Student
Ministries and the various academic schools.
n New master’s degrees in History and
English have been added to the graduate lineup at
Wayland, with both offering great flexibility.

n A total of 16 endowed scholarships were
dedicated in the last school year, providing needed
assistance to students seeking their dreams.
n New athletic offerings will kick off in Fall
2010, including men’s and women’s wrestling –
WBU is the first school in Texas to offer the sport
with intercollegiate competition – and competitive
cheer and dance. Football is slated to begin
competition in Fall 2012.
n A new men’s dormitory was approved to
house 350 and make room for growth in football
and other areas. It will replace the current
McDonald Hall structure, now 62 years old.
n The Second Century Campaign has
reached the halfway point toward a $14 million
goal for a new Flores Bible Building and Mission
Center, fine arts expansion and Harral Auditorium
renovations, campus updates and scholarships.
n A Chase Foundation grant is assisting
teachers in Artesia, N.M., with scholarships for
online graduate degrees.
n A total of 1,627 students earned degrees
during the 2009-10 school year from throughout
Wayland’s 14 campuses.
n Wayland continues its social media
presence on Facebook, connecting regularly with
alumni and friends.
