what’s a

dream

really worth?

“Dream no small dreams, for they have no power to move the hearts of men.”

~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

When students enroll at Wayland Baptist

University, they are not regarded as just a number, a filled seat or a statistic. Instead, they are seen as a new member of a very special family. A family that encourages dreamers and welcomes them to bring their goals to the table, no matter how unconventional.

Some bring simple dreams. They want to change the world of children as a classroom teacher. They want to share the gospel of Jesus

Christ as a missionary or pastor.

Others come with big dreams and big goals.

They want to do medical research and hopefully find a cure for cancer. They want to own their own company, bringing an ethical background and values into the business arena.

Still others want to take the stage of life as singers, actors or instrumentalists, sharing their talents for the world.

To us, it really doesn’t matter, as long as they bring a dream with them. It gives students a focus, a passion, a goal to reach and a reason to push themselves in the college journey.

We’re here for the dreamers, to spur them on and to send them out to change the world.

“All our dreams can come true - if we have the courage to pursue them.”

~ Walt Disney

“It is good to dream, but it is better to dream and work. Faith is mighty, but action with faith is mightier.”

~ Thomas Robert Gaines

the value of a

Why

dream

at Wayland?

n The environment of faith-based values inherent in

Wayland’s mission means students can dream and study and learn while growing their faith and facing the tough questions of life.

n Our faculty not only are well-versed in their subject matter, but they also are held to a Christian standard. And as a learning-focused university, our faculty are focused solely on teaching students, mentoring them and remaining approachable as they lead them in building knowledge and skills.

n Hands-on experiences create understanding for students in various fields as they step outside the lecture halls and into the real world. Practical learning is a key focus.

n With service-learning opportunities and a focus on service, Wayland encourages students to see past just the university community and their own needs and give back to others.

n Programs like Academic Achievement and the Writing

Center focus on students needing an extra hand in the transition to college-level work.

n Wayland’s liberal arts basis focuses on turning out well-rounded graduates prepared for the world with exposure to a variety of disciplines.

“ I knew I was going to need quite a bit of help financially to come to Wayland, and that is exactly what I got. Through three years at WBU, I have taken out only one loan thanks to financial aid. Wayland’s

Financial Aid office has great folks who really care about students’ needs. God has used them to help me move closer to my dream of becoming a teacher.

the power of

investing

in the dream

Imagine being the one whose dollars helped a pre-medical student gain a passion for serving others, leading to a career as a successful pediatric surgeon. Imagine giving the funds to help an aspiring missionary visit another country and fall in love with sharing the Gospel. Or helping fund a building expansion or new project that allows Wayland to reach even more dreamers and help them achieve their goals.

Sharing your blessings with Wayland Baptist University is a powerful investment, because it feeds into the lives of students with which God has entrusted us to train, to encourage and to send into the world to make a difference.

It’s an investment that pays great dividends for eternity, a gift that keeps giving well into the future. One that helps dreams become reality.

Rosemary Ribera, a junior biology major studying to become a dentist, shares how gifts help her achieve her dream at Wayland:

“When I stepped on the campus of Wayland for the first time,

God gave me a peace that it was where I needed to be,” she said.

“Financially, my family and I could not afford Wayland, and we decided that if I was really supposed to go here, God would provide the finances. We then surrendered it all to the Lord, and He provided!”

“The Christian basis at Wayland has been my greatest motivator. Without it, I believe that I might have quit early.

Whenever I filled out a tuition form, I almost felt like it was a two-part investment . The first is in my future, and the other is in the future of a Biblebased university.”

The stories of students who have come to any of Wayland’s 13 campuses, learned and been mentored, then gone out into the world to change lives are countless. We have trained ministers, teachers, lawyers, physicians, business owners and managers, musicians, counselors, coaches... and just about any other profession you can name. And all of them are exposed to the unique Wayland experience where values and ethics are valued just as much as skills and knowledge.

Maybe the thoughts of Plainview campus alum Bob Matthews, class of 1970, sums it up best:

“Wayland provided the educational, spiritual, and emotional atmosphere that helped me gain the tools to reach my goal of vocational service – a total of 37 years, so far. Many things have changed over the last 37 years, but one thing has not changed: It is Wayland's commitment to educate men and women in a manner that honors our Lord and Savior.”
