Faculty Assembly President’s Report September 2013
Welcome back for the 2013-14 school year!
The Faculty Executive Committee will be working on several items this fall that, along with
typical business, includes Graduation Marshall selections and faculty seating at graduation.
A committee listing of the Faculty Assembly Committees and the system wide committees
is included at the end of this report. We have most vacancies filled, however we do have
one vacancy on the system-wide Personnel Committee that I would like your help in filling
so we have two voices on that committee as several important items are up for discussion.
Please let me know if you have a nomination for this vacancy.
I have been in communication with Jim Spice over the summer in regards to faculty
concerns regarding parking. He will be in attendance at the September Faculty Assembly
meeting in order to provide information regarding parking to help address frequently
asked questions and concerns.
There are several APS documents up for review this year, the first is related to hiring
retirees into staff positions (APS 5054). Another is the Parental Leave Policy. Additionally
the system wide Personnel Committee is proposing an APS on Implementing Program
Discontinuance. If you have comments on these, please pass them along to your college rep
to the UCCS Personnel & Benefits Committee. All policies can be found at
https://www.cu.edu/policies/
Annual Events for 2013-14 for Faculty Council committees are:
EMAC Student Retention Speaker, November 8th, UCB
GLBTI Annual Symposium, October 25th, St. Cajetan’s Church, Auraria
12th Annual Cu Women Succeeding Symposium, February 27th & 28th, AMC (seating is
currently limited)
CU for Colorado is a program that brings together all of CU’s outreach programs into one
location for people to search how CU provides public service, education, health care,
community support and cultural engagement to our Colorado Communities. If you would
like to see programs you can visit the website at www.cu.edu/forcolorado or contact
outreach@cu.edu to submit an item that you think should be there.
If you are interested in becoming a CU Advocate, you can join the CU Advocates network at
https://www.cusys.edu/cuadvocates/ This group helps to spread the word about CU’s value and
promotes CU to prospective students and ensures that CU’s voice is heard.
