Old Business
Update on Arizona SB 1070-- Student groups wants to work up their own agenda and activities and then
seek faculty involvement. FMAC is also planning an activity for sometime in the spring.
EMAC system level—has a budget of $5000 per year. It was suggested that FMAC use UCCS money for
the SB 1070 response. The amount would be roughly $1500. A budget would need to be submitted to
EMAC.
Suggestions requested: California poet related to the issue. Also, bring in a related play, which would need
to work with Theatre works. As an alternative, Kimbra Smith might be able to put a student group together
for community presentation.
Newcomers: The request was to try to have them all done by next month, then compile analyze and write
up a report. The next step could be to present at a national conference or possible publication (President’s
teaching Scholars meeting in March; ASA in Denver in 2012.)
EMAC Update: New Chairs for the year. Denver putting on a Global Community event, emphasis on
urban communities.
Associate Vice Chancellor of Diversity, Kee Warner- update:
Express the realities of local undocumented and the difficulties they have surrounding college. Perhaps
have students come in to talk of their situation.
ICAT: Currently has a dozen members. The Focus is on student issues. One goal is to follow up on the
inclusiveness survey with recommendations to campus leadership. Main goal: safeguarding exclusiveness
in talks with leadership team.
LGBT Taskforce: Will have a final meeting with leadership team. Chancellor will have her response.
Probably an ongoing advisory committee will be coming out of this. One goal is to figure out how to keep
the funding for the Resource center.
Safe Space Training is on October 29th. Also, the Resource Center is working on a road show for LGBT
issues.
VCSS: meeting with Vice Chancellor. Looking for more success with diversity outreach.
Community Centers: Groups are working to help keep the Community Centers functional, including.
churches and nonprofit groups working to help with city funding cuts. University support: Spanish
language recruitment event at Deerfield hill, Nov 13.
Salsa Extravaganza: Centro De Familia, local projects are the beneficiary. SOC department has a ten seat
table and is looking for interested parties to fill it. OCT 15
OCOC: program moving forward. College of Education and Education Children of Color. Pre registration
is available at $25
CU Diversity
Claude Steele, Whistling Vivaldi, as keynote speaker. Stereo type threats and performance. Feb 4.
Originally aimed at academic leadership, now making room for faculty and student access.
General Education Goals: The task force committee met once. Feedback was incorporated without
completely rewriting the document with a foothold for diversity and inclusiveness.
BUDGET: cut by five hundred dollars. Still have $4700. There should be a few hundred left after all
commitments
Carmen Abeyta: flowers for thank you. Just out of the hospital.
There was a Review of the Budget.
Newcomer Faculty Reception planning update: Flyers are available.
Planning committee: tables need to be arranged (Anthony) from UC center. Russ Sankeah will be playing.
A student bartender will be handling the beverages. Drinks are provided by members. Paper goods need to
be acquired. Ice also. Asking for volunteers amongst the total FMAC list. Invite Folks, especially our new
faculty. A request for volunteers to make phone calls to new faculty was put forward.
ROSA Parks/Ceasar Chavez: Andrea Herrera: There is a struggle with awards ceremony, in April, to get
folks there. The most successful pairing was with another event. Proposal: It was suggested to share with
black history month. Would Faculty MAC pair with ROSA in March, with the reception afterwards. It
would create a larger turnout. Andrea is also looking for committee members. The Proposal: accepted.
Perhaps have it in the GALLERY or DWIRE theatre. There were issues around room charges also. The
date March 09, Wednesday was approved.
Verbal (Email) attack on Rashna: Discussion concerning list-serve civility. Faculty need to be in the center
of any agreements. FMAC response; Convey to faculty government support for a campus policy. Possibly
to pass a motion in the faculty assembly. Bring up as discussion. Eddie will try to get this on the agenda for
the next Faculty governance meeting.
Feedback on Proposed Scheduling: most preferred the schedule that started at 8 am with 15 minute breaks,
ending at 10:10.
