Office of Instruction & Graduate Studies Assessment Plans 2010-11 Unit Mission: The mission of the Office of Instruction & Graduate Studies is to effectively facilitate the delivery of ESF’s instructional programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and to provide effective leadership and administrative oversight of the Graduate School Unit Goal Link to ESF Goals (by #) Method(s) of Assessment Results of Assessment Implementation Plan To facilitate improvement of academic policies, programs, and curriculum and ensure compliance with SUNY and NYSED academic policies 1,2 Oversee Faculty Governance curriculum development and approval processes, and maintain curriculum review records, academic policies, and college catalog content New programs presented to SUNY and NYSED annually; Catalog updates coordinated and published with the Office of Communication annually (110 new courses or course changes, 7 major curriculum changes in 2010-2011) Current practice; COI structure recently changed to facilitate more faculty involvement & creation of a specific governance “Curriculum Committee” to be implemented in 20112012 To facilitate effective recruitment, admission, audit and certification of degrees 1,2 Meet semiannually with Graduate Council and GSA Advisory Group to review current processes & procedures Prepare/update Recruitment and Enrollment Management Plan annually; coordinate updates to application and admissions process with IT staff; Develop/update graduate records management system with IT staff To allocate and award graduate financial support programs, including graduate assistantships and tuition scholarships 1, 2 Review GA allocations annually w/ Departments; link funding process for new graduate students to admissions process Prepare/update Recruitment and Enrollment Management Plan annually; Manage and track GA appointment processes, coordinate with HR 1st Recruitment & Enrollment Management Plan implemented in 2010; annual updates to online application and admissions review system currently in process; on-line graduate records system in beta testing currently- full function anticipated by January 2012. To provide prompt, courteous, and effective customer assistance to ESF students, faculty, and staff 2 Solicit direct feedback from clients regarding office procedures and staff performance; OIGS annual retreat & planning meeting; leadership models desired service emphasis Strong customer service orientation is gradually becoming central to OIGS’ office culture The Graduate School website incorporated an anonymous feedback portal in August 2010 (http://www.esf.edu /graduate/). In addition, the Dean and staff meet semiannually with the Graduate Council and GSA Advisory Group to request suggestions and feedback.
