Advising Collectives for Freshmen and Sophomores Advising Collectives are composed of groups of faculty who are advising pre-majors from major programs with similar pre-requisite requirements. Each Collective is supported by professional advisors. Each collective advises approximately 20 to 35 percent of freshmen. The numbers may vary as students move to the sophomore year and start making decisions about majors. Each individual faculty advisor will be responsible for approximately 5-10 freshmen and 5-10 sophomore students. Because students do change their minds about majors, all advisors must be well versed in the general education curriculum, the pre-requisites for the majors in their collective, and were to find the pre-requisites for all majors. 1. Pre-Science/Health Care (biology, chemistry, clinical laboratory science, exercise science, nursing, pre-medicine, pre-physical therapy) 2. Pre- Social/Behavioral Sciences & Education (psychology, sociology, social work, history, political science, African American studies, gerontology, justice studies, rehabilitation studies, therapeutic recreation, pre-rehabilitation counseling, pre-occupational therapy, birthkindergarten, special education, elementary, middle-grades, secondary (English, mathematics, physical education, science)) 3. Pre-Language/Arts/Undecided (English, Spanish, mass communication, art, music, undecided) 4. Pre-Business/Computational Sciences (business, management, marketing, economics, sport management, motor sports management, mathematics, accounting, finance, computer science, management information systems) Students who are in programs such as the Honor’s Program, STEM Scholars, Athletics, International Scholars, Distance Learning, and Evening and Weekend may also be assigned additional faculty or professional advisors. The Academic Advising Center will work with the students and the advisors to ensure clarity about the roles each advisor plays.
