TEACHING INTERESTS
My teaching interests include the basic communication course, public speaking, intercultural
communication, and interpersonal communication with abilities and willingness to teach in related
areas.
ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENTS
2006–2008
Assistant Department Chairperson, the Department of English and Foreign
Languages, Winston-Salem State University. Supervised adjunct faculty members
and recruitment and retention initiatives.
1997–2000
Assistant Director of Learning Assistance, University of North Carolina at
Greensboro. Assisted in managing a program serving more than 300
undergraduate students. Recruited, hired, trained, and supervised approximately
100 tutors per academic year.
1993–1997
Tutor Coordinator, Special Support Services, University of Carolina at
Greensboro, and the U.S. Department of Education (TRIO). Recruited, hired,
supervised, and trained about 40 tutors per academic year. Served as an academic
advisor for first-generation college students enrolled in the program.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My areas of research interests involve (1) communication education, (2) the basic communication
course, (3) critical communication pedagogy, (4)cultural studies, (5) deliberative dialogue, and
(6) intercultural communication, (7) communication across the curriculum

Contributor to the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of
Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) Grant to foster student exchange and faculty
collaboration with three Brazilian universities. My contribution was to redesign and
teach the basic communication course for Winston-Salem State and the Brazilian
students. Students also enrolled in my intercultural communication course.
