Who Should The symposium is designed for Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physical
Attend Therapists and Physicians Assistants interested in the treatment of pelvic floor
disorders within the fields of Internal Medicine and Primary Care physicians,
Urologists, Gynecologists, and Colorectal Surgeons.
Purpose Update on the multidisciplinary approach to the evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor disorders including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, pelvic pain
and constipation. The course is aimed at providing tools to practitioners so they can identify,
evaluate and offer first line therapy for pelvic floor disorders. The ability to perform these
tasks has been identified as lacking in multiple national publications and guidelines.
Educational Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to link the educational
Objectives objectives to Core Competencies(Medical Knowledge and Patient Care) and be able to:
• Evaluate patients with pelvic floor disorders through careful screening
• Perform directed pelvic floor history and physical examination
• Initiate and manage therapy for urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, constipation,
and pelvic organ prolapse
• Identify the mechanisms behind chronic pelvic pain and be able to initiate treatment
• Discuss the role of pelvic floor physical therapy in the treatment of pelvic floor disorders
• Discuss the pros and cons of pelvic mesh and slings
• Identify complex patients who require referral to a subspecialist
Accreditation The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide
Continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center designates this live activity for a
Designation maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
