Prepared by Rebecca Robrahn x7670 / cit@hope.edu Saving to the U: Drive/Network Drive This document describes how campus employees can save their files, documents, spreadsheets, etc. to the U: drive/network drive. Files that are stored on this secure network drive are backed up every night and can be restored in case of an emergency. Additionally, files stored on the network drive are more secure. That is, they cannot be accessed unless a viewer is logged into the appropriate network account. Finally, another benefit of storing files on this network drive is that they can be intentionally shared with others within the same department by saving them in the \share\ directory. SAVING A FILE IN A PERSONAL DIRECTORY Most computers will default to saving the file into the personal directory on the U: drive. Though files may be saved from a variety of programs, Microsoft Word will be shown the following examples. 1. Click File, Save. The default location is in u:\deptname\accountname\ U:\cit\doc\Saving to the U Drive.doc -1- 2. Assign a filename and click Save. 3. If the u:\deptname\accountname\ directory is not selected, it may be chosen from the Save in: pull-down menu. 4. If the file should be shared with others in the same department, the u:\deptname\share\ directory can be chosen from the Save in: pull-down menu. U:\cit\doc\Saving to the U Drive.doc -2-
