interested in experiential
learning and in the use of
problem- or scenariobased learning in an

About the Program
Program Agenda
The Online Facilitation Certificate Program is an advanced program that
builds on the experiences of the Teaching Online Certificate Program.
Through the exploration of management strategies and role-playing
simulations, you will experience a variety of options to enhance your
online activities.
A multi-week program exploring management and facilitation skills
for teaching online.
Using Blackboard, this program allows faculty to engage in online
learning from a student perspective. Faculty will be introduced to the
tools and enhancements that they can use in their own course. Faculty
will earn four badges towards the certificate and expect to spend about
5-7 hours to complete each badge.
1. Live Session – Online Teaching and Management Strategies.
Tuesday, March 15, 2016, 12:15-1:00pm. This session introduces
management strategies that can be implemented at the start,
middle and the end of teaching a course online.
2. Voice Thread – Online Teaching Survival Hot Line. Participants
will share management struggles and solutions with each other.
Prerequisites
Faculty should complete the Teaching Online Certificate Program and
have taught the online course at least once or completed a Quality
Matters™ review before enrolling in this program.
Program Objectives
Upon completion of this program, faculty will be able to:
1. Discuss online classroom management and facilitation strategies
to establish an engaging online learning experience for students
2. Apply good online facilitation practices that create an environment
for reflection, critical thinking, and collaboration
3. Use strategies to manage student-student, student-content, and
student-instructor interactions in the online asynchronous and
synchronous classroom

Hiker Badge – Online Facilitation and Engagement Strategies
Monday, March 28 – Friday, April 1
1. Forum – Tips and Tricks for Facilitating and Engaging
Students. This session provides some practical tips for facilitating
online activities including discussions and teams.
2. Blog – “A Coal Habit is hard to break” – Faculty will participate
in teams in this role-playing simulation.
Mountaineer Badge – Capstone Project
Monday, April 4 – Friday, April 15, 2016
1. Faculty will choose one assignment or activity in their online course
to apply some of the concepts introduced in this program.
Alpinist Badge – Online Synchronous Facilitation Skills using
Blackboard Collaborate
Monday, April 4 – Friday, April 15, 2016
1. Live Session-Online Teaching Facilitation Skills. Monday, April
4, 12:15-1:30pm. This session introduces how to engage students
in synchronous sessions using Blackboard Collaborate.
2. Live Sessions – Faculty Presentations
To receive a certificate of completion, faculty must be awarded all
four badges associated with this program including the Walker, Hiker,
Mountaineer, and Alpinist Badges.
