ABSTRACT
e2e Materials has developed a novel method of fabricating dry films of our proprietary soy resin
system that can be used as an adhesive in the plywood industry. The films are completely
biobased and formaldehyde free and offer a cleaner, greener, and very cost effective method of
gluing wood veneers together for both curved and flat plywood applications. Potential end
products would be office furniture, wall panels, flooring, and flat plywood building materials. The
film is dry, low moisture, and very easy to make and handle, and it should provide an attractive
cost advantage in terms of material cost, handling, clean-up, waste, and cure time over
conventional UV, PVA, and similar wet glues. This material could theoretically be made in large
quantity quite inexpensively, put on a roll or stacked in pre-cut sheets, and then cut to size and
used to bond bent plywood together in place of glue. The key attributes of this product would be:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Bonds extremely well to wood veneers of all types
The films are dry (less than 10% moisture), easy to handle, and easy to press at the
pressures and temperatures used in making plywood
The cure time could be reduced by as much as 20% in the press
There is no glue applicator equipment required (and thus, no clean-up and no waste)
The material could easily be manufactured in sheets or rolls up to 8’ wide using available
industrial equipment
The material contains no formaldehyde, PMDI, red list chemicals, or petroleum derived
products
