TOPICS FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT ASSIGNMENTS (2007-08)
Programme: M.B.A. - Second Semester
Important: Students are advised to read the separate enclosed instructions before beginning the writing
of assignments. Out of 25 Internal Assignment marks per paper, 5 marks will be awarded for regularity
(attendance) to Counseling/ Contact Programme classes pertaining to the paper. Therefore, the topics
given below are only for 20 marks each paper.
Note: 1. Each Paper consists of two sections, A and B.
2. Section-A comprises questions of FIVE marks each.
3. Section-B comprises questions of TEN marks each.
4. The students are required to answer TWO questions from Section - A and
ONE question from Section - B
Paper-01: Human Resource Management
Section - A
1. Explain the objectives of HRM and the role of a HR manager.
2. Write a note on Job analysis.
3. Explain the importance of HRP.
Section - B
4. Explain the various methods of Performance Appraisal.
5. Explain in detail the process of Recruitment and Selection.
Paper-02: Marketing Management
Section - A
1. Analyze companies’ orientation towards market place.
2. What are major factors influencing buyer behaviour?
3. Explain the procedure of market segmentation.
Section - B
4. Describe with suitable cases major macro environment forces.
5. Discuss in detail with the support of examples product life cycle marketing
strategies.

Paper-03: Financial Management
Section - A
1. Define Financial Management. What is the role of Financial Manager in modern
day business?
2. What do you understand by EBIT-EPS analysis? What is its importance?
3. Explain the role of Capital Market and Money Market intermediaries in managing
financial requirements of corporate houses.
Section - B
4. Suppose two firms – Firm U an Unlevered firm and Firm L a levered firm – have
identical assets and expected NOI (Net operating income = X ) of Rs. 10,000 The
value of the firm L is Rs 1,00,000 assuming the cost of equity is 10% under the
traditional view, since the firm U has no debt, the value of its equity is equal to its
total value (Eu = Vu). Firm L employs 6% Rs. 50,000 debt. Suppose its cost of
equity under the traditional view is 11.7%, what will be the value of firm U?
Explain how the concept of arbitrage would affect the value of both firms.
5. A company is considering two mutually exclusive projects. Both require an initial
cash outlay of Rs. 10,000 each, and have a life of five years. The company required
rate of return is 10% and pays tax @ 50%. The project will be depreciated in a
straight-line basis. The before taxes cash flows expected to be generated by the
project as follows:
