SPEAKERS KEVIN MCCARTHY, PH.D, STRESS AND LIFE BALANCE Dr. McCarthy completed his B.A. in Psychology at Antioch University, his M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Pepperdine University, specializing in marriage and family therapy, and his doctorate at U.S.I.U. in Clinical Psychology with a clinical internship at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He incorporated training in clinical neuropsychology at LSU and expanded into work among law enforcement personnel located within the State of Louisiana who had experienced traumatic stress incidents. He was on the clinical faculty at LSU Department of Psychiatry and is retired from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. He has been actively engaged in 12-step work for over 30 years. Dr. McCarthy has conducted a variety of management, and professional and personal development programs around issues addressing sexual harassment, substance abuse, communication, performance management, resiliency, stress, wellness, depression, time management, balance and personal finance management. BILLIE BUCKLEY, PUT SOME GOOD ON MY LIFE! Billie Buckley is a local light hearted Christian humorist who shares her larger than life stories in books, newspapers, and public speaking. Through her latest book, “Put Some Good on My Life” as well as public speaking and teaching engagements, she welcomes you into her world with her thought provoking distinct writer’s voice. She shares honestly, in a humorous and real way her needs and struggles about living life to its fullest when you just simply want to skip the whole thing! For thirty-two years she taught in the public school system. She has written a column for the Hattiesburg American for the past twenty years. She continues to teach in two different locations through Christian Women’s Job Corps. It is a hand’s up program for women who are hurting and in need of real hope. Billie married her favorite preacher, Gerald Buckley over 50 years ago. They have two sons. Steve Buckley is the head football coach at Petal High School and Stan Buckley who is the senior pastor at the First Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. Her daughters-in law, Jewell and Kristi, are her heroes because they love her sons. Billie has 5 grandchildren who are all included in her life stories in the book which started out to be a legacy just for her family. MICHAEL B. Shane Jackson is a Field Claims Specialist with Strategic Comp. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi. He began his career as a senior adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and has been with Strategic Comp since 2004. He has 13 years of experience in investigating, litigation management, and adjusting of serious to complex workers’ compensation claims in multiple jurisdictions. He specializes in adjusting Mississippi workers’ compensation claims in a field based setting. Shane is married with an 11 year old son. LLOYD MUNN AND SONNY BLACKWELL, RISK MANAGEMENT Lloyd Munn is Director of Loss Control Services for BancorpSouth Insurance Services. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has been in the risk management and loss control area for more than 25 years where his focus spans across auto dealerships, manufacturing, construction, trucking, restaurants, and others. He is certified to train in many areas including OSHA 10 and 30 hour constructions courses, excavations, scaffolding, traffic control and flagging, accident investigation, effective supervision, and crisis management. He is also a certified ATSSA Worksite Traffic Control Supervisor and Crane Inspector and conducts the 40 hour prep course for the NCCO exams. Lloyd is married to Jeanie and they have 3 children. Sonny Blackwell is Vice President of Risk Management Resources for BancorpSouth Insurance Services. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi. Sonny spent time as Loss Control Technical Director for St. Paul Fire and Marine; Regional Loss Control Manager for USG&G; and as an Investigator for Entergy. Sonny’s professional designations include Associate in Loss Control and Risk Management; M.S. Safety and Health Education; Rational Management Process; RAM-S; and Certified Training and Development Professional. Sonny uses and quantitative and qualitative risk analysis approach and focuses on a results oriented and continuous improvement strategy. Sonny is married to Sandy and they have one daughter. SAUNDRA STRONG, FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE ACT Saundra Strong is an associate with Phelps Dunbar in Jackson, MS and practices with the firm’s Labor and Employment Group. Saundra provides advice to clients concerning all aspects of the employment relationship and regularly defends employers in lawsuits brought under federal, state and local EEO laws and regulations. Saundra also regularly counsels national employers from a variety of industries on all aspects of affirmative action compliance. Saundra received her B.A. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and her J.D. degree from Mississippi College School of Law. SEALE PYLATE, PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT OF 2010 (PPACA) Seale Pylate is counsel in the labor and employment group in the Jackson office of Phelps Dunbar. Her practice relates exclusively to employee benefits and executive compensation. Seale works with health plan sponsors on matters related to compliance with health care reform, HIPAA, and other federal laws. She also devotes a substantial amount of time to working with plan sponsors in the areas of qualified retirement plans, non-qualified deferred compensation plans, and plans sponsored by governmental and tax-exempt entities.
