Running Head: Business Article Review 1 Business Article Review Marlon D. Hackett Bellevue University MSM 530, Assignment 1.4 Business Article Review 2 Business Article Review The article that I chose to review is titled “U.S. Soon to Recover All Jobs Lost in Crisis,” written by Annalyn Kurtz, a writer from CNN, which is dated 4 June 2014. The article is centered on the high volume of job losses in 2007 when the American job market and the financial market crashed. This article drives home the fact that the current economy is actually surging and is on pace to equal the amount of job growth the U.S. sustained before the market crashed. The article explains in detail that the U.S. job market figures are only 113, 000 jobs away from the 2008 Labor market peak; although these figures are promising, there’s still work to do! The country has about 15 million more working-age people now than it did in early 2008. It will take millions more jobs to achieve the kind of healthy job market we had before the recession (Kurtz, 2014). In addition, the article also explained that the unemployment rate is also on pace to come close to the numbers reported in 2008 within a few years. The economist explained that at 5.5% unemployment, the country experiences normal turnover in the job market, which is considered healthy (Kurtz, 2014) In January 2008, the unemployment rate was 5%; in April 2014 the unemployment rate was at 6.3%. What was also enlightening about the article was the picture painted about the housing market. States like Nevada and Arizona, which were hard hit by the housing bust, still haven't recovered all the jobs they lost, whereas states with energy booms are well above their pre-recession peak. North Dakota, for example, has 30% more jobs now than it did in 2008; Texas has 9% more jobs than before the downturn (Kurtz, A.2014). In closing, I found this article to be credible and informational due to the body of research provided and also the source of the research; which included the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and opinions given by the Chief U.S. Economist for High Frequency Economics. The article painted a good snapshot of where the U.S. Economy stands and where it’s headed in a way that the average person can understand the information being explained.
