Q. My child thinks he wants to be a goalie. What does it cost?
A. The cost for a goalie at IP (mite) level is the same as a skater for the given year. The IP
level is a development age for the players. The MAML organization has the belief and
encourages that players at this level to try all positions throughout the season.
Q. Where do I obtain equipment for my son or daughter to play the goalie position?
A. The MAML Hockey Association provides goalie equipment to each IP team. Your team
coaches will manage this along with rotation of players into the goalie position.

Q. What are the goalie’s main position responsibilities?
A. The main responsibility of the goalie is to keep the puck from entering the goal area. There
are very few restrictions on the methods the goalie uses to achieve this. Offensive
contributions are limited. Occasionally the goalie will passing the puck to a teammate to start an
offensive rush. An assist for a goalie happens on occasion and goals are very rare.
Q. How large of an area does the goalie protect?
A. The nets are six feet wide by four feet high; a target of 24 square feet.
Q. How can I help my player learn how to put on their equipment?
A. Parents should come early to practice the day they will play goalie to learn how to put the
equipment on correctly. The coaches will show the goalie and parents how each piece of
equipment is supposed to work.
Q. Is training available outside of the association?
A. Yes. There are many camps, clinics and coaches available throughout the Metro area. Contact
a goalie committee member for additional information or competitive level parent contacts for
idea’s/recommendations.
