Course Objectives The objectives are: a. To explain the main concepts of power system operation. b. To teach how to configure the commitments of generating units. c. To show how to operate a power system economically. d. To introduce the operation of AGC, EMS & Control Centers. e. To explain how to estimate the power system state. f. To discuss how to assess the power system security level.. III. Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete the course will acquire the following knowledge & skills: 1. Understanding of the fundamentals of economical operation and control of power generation systems. 2. Understanding of the basics of mathematical optimization methods and apply them to practical operating problems. 3. Understanding of the basic operation of AGC, EMS and control center. 4. Understanding of the concept of the security analysis and the idea that power system could be constrained to operate in secure manner. 5. Understanding of the fundamentals of the state estimation process and its importance for the secure operation of the power systems. 6.
