Photography Competition: All About Ageing
About the Competition
All About Ageing is a national photography competition, organised by the Age
Action Alliance to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the network, promoting partnership
working and practical action to improve older people’s lives, on 30 September 2013.
The competition is planned to coincide with UN Older People’s Day (1 October). We
want to collect and showcase the best and most interesting images which celebrate
ageing, the contribution of older people to society and positive interactions across all
age groups. We are particularly interested in images that challenge stereotypes,
capture positive aspects of ageing, surprise or entertain us and which can be used to
support the work of the Age Action Alliance network.
Prizes
The winners will be awarded prizes, thanks to an offer of support from Alliance
member, Ostrich. Prizes include photographic and computer equipment, with the
overall winning picture being used in a national advertising campaign to celebrate
the work of the Age Action Alliance. Alongside donations to groups or charities of the
winners’ choice, that work with older people.
All winning entries will be included in an All About Ageing Photography Exhibition
called “No Negatives” which will exhibit in towns and cities across the UK with the
overall winner published in a national newspaper. The images will also go online and
be made freely available to the media – to replace the many negative or
stereotypical images that are currently recycled whenever stories about ageing are
printed.
How to Enter
The competition is open to everyone and you can submit on behalf of someone else
so long as we have their consent. You can enter just one photo or up to one in each
of our five broad categories:






These categories are not intended to be restrictive and as long as your image fits
within the broad aims of the Age Action Alliance we would welcome it in any
category. If you can't decide where your image fits, you may enter it under our Open
Category. We welcome good quality images as these will be of most use to us.
However, technical proficiency is not our top judging criterion. We don't mind how
you took the image, however it must be submitted as an electronic JPEG file.
Closing Date
The competition will launch on 30 September 2013, to celebrate the 2 nd anniversary
of the Alliance, and the closing date for entries has been extended to encourage
maximum participation is now 30 November 2013.
