Conversion tip when using the conversion chart
1. Notice we are referring to the EXPONENT associate with 10 when we count places to move the
decimal. We are NOT counting actual words listed on the chart.
Therefore 400ml = 400,000,000nl
To move from milli to nano we are moving 6 units to the right
2. Left larger ( prefix)
3. Right smaller ( prefix)
Scientific notation tips
1. If the number becomes smaller when you move the decimal, you will need the exponent to be
positive: 123,456,7 becomes 1.234567 X106
2. If the number becomes bigger when you move the decimal, you will need the exponent to be
negative: 0.001234567 becomes 1.234567 X10-3
