Dance Marathon Chair Position Descriptions
Executive
Executive Chair
 Work with Dance Marathon Alumni Group to foster alumni involvement in DM
 Ensure DM website is up to date
 Manage the Office voicemail and ensures that messages are returned in an appropriate
timeframe
 Order Leadership Team nametags
 Manage Leadership & Dancer listserv emails
 Purchase office supplies monthly
 Oversee Leadership Team Office Hours
 Oversee Office Organization
 Assist the Executive Director and advisors
 Attend all Executive Meetings and take minutes
Business
Business Chair
 Help enter, deposit, and acknowledge all incoming gifts
 Assist in changing morale groups
 Know and understand various ways Dance Marathon makes money (i.e. UBO Deposits, Letter
Writing, Canning)
 Communicate with Dancers and Morale Captains about how up to date DM deposits are to
minimize frustration and maximize retention
 Enter donations during weekly business hours
 Assist the Business Director when needed
Donor Relations Chair
 Work with CMN and CSIL on past donor and faculty staff mailing
 Update and correct donor information as necessary
 Coordinate donation recognition for gifts under $250
 Coordinate the post Big Event thank-you to all donors
 Work closely with sponsorship and development
 Enter donations during weekly business hours
 Assist the Business Director when needed
Spirit Dancing Chair
 Communicate with all Spirit Dancers about check-in times and where they can deposit money
 Run Spirit Dancer check-in and manage Spirit Dancer shifts
 Set up Spirit Dancing teams in database
 Must have a strong understanding of the DM database
 Maintain regular office hours and perform Business Committee members’ basic duties until
Spirit Dancing program is launched late fall
 Enter donations during weekly business hours
 Assist the Business Director when needed
Canning Co-Chairs
 Organize downtown, neighborhood, and football tailgate canning
 Organize the Football and Basketball Miracle Games with CMN

 Available to answer various questions about canning from Dancers/Runners
 Work with the Student Organization’s Business Office (SOBO) to ensure that all cash handling
procedures are being followed
 Access to a vehicle is desirable
 Enter donations during weekly business hours
 Assist the Business Director when needed
Fundraising Chair
 Prints off Letter Writing Campaign submissions
 Verifies that letters are sent only for currently registered Dancers/Runners
 Organizes logistics of LWC mailing with Morale
 Enter donations during weekly business hours
 Biweekly meetings with the Dancer Relations Chair
 Assist the Business Director when needed
Sponsorship
Sponsorship Chair
 Develop/adjust corporate sponsorship levels and benefits (if needed)
 Organize mailings to potential and previous sponsors
 Recruit all sponsors, manage follow-up on mailings
 Maintain communication with other Committees in order to ensure no company is contacted
more than once
 Pursuit of foundations/grants
 Work with Family Relations to coordinate sponsoring Family Relations activities
 Assist Sponsorship Director when needed
Dancer Incentive Program (DIP) Chair
 Coordinates in-kind donations and sponsorships for Dancer Incentive Program
 Communicates DIP program to Dancers
 Implements DIP program throughout the year and during the Big Event
 Assist Sponsorship Director when needed
Hospitality Chair
 Work with Food Service liaison to coordinate Big Event hospitality needs
 Solicit food donations
 Communicate volunteer needs for the Big Event to the Operations Director
 Coordinate Snack Shack donations
 Assist Sponsorship Director when needed
Development
Mini-Dance Marathon Co-Chairs
New Mini Dance Marathon Co-Chair
 Works exclusively with schools that are new to the Mini Dance Marathon program
 Contacts local schools about hosting a Mini-Dance Marathon or other fundraisers
 Attends planning meetings at local schools in person or by internet communications
 Maintains relationships with local schools

 Attends mini marathons and speaks at school assemblies
 Follow up with schools for feedback after the Mini-Dance Marathon
 Works with Development Director to develop document tracking all mini-DM’s for the

 Assists Development Director when needed
Mini Dance Marathon Development Co-Chair
 Works exclusively with schools that have had Mini Dance Marathons for multiple years
to expand fundraising efforts and improve the events
 Attends planning meetings at local schools in person or by internet communications
 Maintains relationships with local schools
 Coordinate DM representatives to attend Mini-Dance Marathons
 Attends mini marathons and speaks at school assemblies
 Follow up with schools for feedback after the Mini-Dance Marathon
 Works with Development Director to develop document tracking all mini-DM’s for the
year
 Assists Development Director when needed
Community Relations Chair
 Plan restaurant community nights and seek out additional opportunities
 Organize Family Weekend Brunch fundraiser for 200+ attendants, involving UI students and
families, Iowa City, and University community;
 Work with I-club, Rotary Clubs, Optimist Group, and other community groups to promote Dance
Marathon;
 Assists Development Director when needed
Dance Marathon the Marathon Co-Chairs
 Recruitment and Coaching Chair
o Coordinate training runs over the summer
o Oversee a sub-committee to organize training and DMM events
o Foster relationships with running organizations around Iowa City and Coralville
o Attend Chicago Marathon—preferred if chair isn’t participants
o Work closely with DMM Logistics Chair
o Summer availability is necessary (in Iowa City)
o Assists Development Director when needed
 Logistics Chair
o Recruit Runners to fundraise and run Chicago Marathon
o Work with Chicago Marathon to maintain charity status
o Oversee a sub Committee to organize training and DMM events
o Work with Development Director, Sponsorship Director and Executive Director to
coordinate all DMM fundraising
o Work closely with DMM Coaching Chair
o Summer availability is necessary (in Iowa City)

 Assists with the planning of Dancer Appreciation Week
 Assists with the planning of Lime Days
 Plans the 100 Days Out Celebration
 Assists with booking entertainment at the Big Event and planning activity rooms
 Assists the Event Director when needed
Dancer Relations Chair
 Expand DM recruitment to new areas of campus (graduate students, historically underrepresented populations, international students, high schools in town, etc.)
 These individuals must have strong connections to the University student community, be able to
speak to large, diverse groups, and be willing to seek out the proper contacts for each area
 Works with the Event Director and Morale Director to organize DM involvement at Summer
Orientation sessions
 Assists the Event Director when needed
Campus Relations Chair
 Be the liaison between Student Orgs and Dance Marathon
 Be the liaison between Homecoming and Dance Marathon
 Design, market, and manage the Greek, Student Org, & Res Hall challenges
 Expand Dance Marathon’s Reach on Campus
 This person must be familiar with Student Orgs and the Greek Community
 This person must be familiar with Residence Life
 Assists the Event Director when needed
Entertainment Chair
 Coordinates and schedules all entertainment throughout the year and at the Big Event
 Communicates with entertainment during the year to get contracts and Big Event special needs
 MCs the Big Event and coordinates Main Stage activity with DJs
 Assists the Event Director when needed
Analytics Chair
 Creates feedback measurements for all Dance Marathon programs and events including, but not
limited to, Leadership Meetings, Dancer Meetings, and recruitment events
 Provides Executive Director, Event Director, and Executive Council reports of feedback
measurements
 Tracks registration throughout the year and provides weekly registration updates to Executive
Director, Event Director, and Executive Council
 Tracks fundraising efforts throughout the year and provides weekly fundraising updates to
Executive Director, Event Director, and Executive Council
Morale
Recruitment/Retention Chair
• Coordinates morale captain staffing for canning opportunities with Canning Chairs
• Knowledgeable of online giving system to answer questions

 Keep media abreast of all activities and events year-round
 Maintain integrity of information posted on the DM website

Multimedia Chair
 Coordinate photo and video recordings of all DM events throughout the year
 Coordinate photo and video recordings of the Big Event
 Assists in the creation of the recruitment video
 Coordinates all other organizational photo and video needs

Marketing Chair
 Designs flyers and posters for Dance Marathon events and programs
 Designs profile pictures and cover photos for Dance Marathon Facebook page
 Assists in designing merchandise

 Assist in plotting the floor plans for the Big Event
 Assist Operations Director in soliciting equipment from the IMU, the University and outside
businesses
 Maintain cleanliness during the Big Event by replenishing water supplies and taking out the
garbage
 Coordinate sustainability programs with the Iowa Memorial Union and University of Iowa
Sustainability
 Assist with setup and teardown of Dance Marathon events
 Assist other event committees throughout the year as needed
 Assists Operations Director when needed
Volunteer Chair
 Organize, assign, and recruit Big Event volunteers
 Coordinate the registration of DM events for volunteers through SignupGenius
 Know the IMU layout
 Set security stations and coordinate rotations
 Check on volunteers throughout the Big Event
 Make sure volunteers have a clear understanding of their roles
 Coordinate and assist with setup and teardown
 Coordinates visitor, volunteer, and VIP check-in at Big Event
 Assists with Big Event signage with Public Relations/Marketing Director and Iowa Memorial
Union
 Assists in updating Dance Marathon Policies and Procedures as needed

Logistics Chair
 Organize transportation to and from the Big Event, hotels, and hospital
 Work with campus and CSIL to schedule and reserve transportation needs
 Work with the Operations Director to schedule and certify the drivers

 Coordinate events such as Fall Picnic and Winter Family Event
 Order Dancing in Our Hearts buttons and Veteran Family buttons
 Responsible for scheduling main stage family speakers at Big Event
 Attend Family Relations Committee meetings and annual family relations events
 Assist Family Relations Director when needed
Family Representative Chair
 Responsible for overseeing the Family Representative Committee
 Hold monthly Family Representative meetings (typically two nights for each meeting)
 Organize and maintain family representative program
 Oversee and help coordinate the Morale Captain in Training (MCT) Program
 Work to recruit Family Representatives
 Coordinate pairing of families and Family Representatives throughout the year
 Coordinate Family Meet Ups at the Big Event

 Coordinates 6-8 Hospital Parties throughout the year that occur Fridays 2:30-4:00
