Journal reflection for Final Project
October 15th
Today I am hiking with my cousin in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The seasons are changing, so I
am hoping to capture a little bit of that color change that is occurring right now. I find this canyon so
beautiful and calming. There is supposed to be a pretty sunset tonight, so I am also hoping to capture
that as well.
We have been wandering through some trees off of the path, and ran into a really pretty little
waterfall. It will be perfect for capturing the water in a long exposure. I also want my cousin in a few
photos because she is my closest relative and it helps me look back and remember I was doing what I
love with who I love.
October 21st
My friend Austin asked if I would show him a little spot in Big Cottonwood Canyon today. The
trail I want to take him to is more of a path for rock climbers. But if you go into the bushes a little way
up the trail, it cuts over to some of the prettiest waterfalls I have seen in the canyon. There are many
big boulders that the water runs over. I find this spot so majestic and soothing.
October 23rd
I wanted to go on an early morning hike while everyone is off the trails, and in the office. It is
almost a ghost town in Big Cottonwood Canyon. I decided to hike up to Dog Lake where I see clouds
rolling over the mountains. Such a peaceful day. The lake still hasn’t frozen over and it looks so pretty.
In this moment, I feel so free. I wanted to capture how pretty the lake looks, and the sun shining
through the trees.
October 30th
Today, I wanted to go to Daybreak Lake, and capture the beauty by the lake, and include the
houses. The house structure is so different on those houses, and I really enjoy driving around and
looking at the unique styles. It is a relaxing place to go to for a short walk, and there is so much pretty
scenery all along the way. I hope to capture what I enjoy about the area.
November 11th
I am going downtown today with my friend Brantly. I find the Cathedral of the Madeline to be
such a pretty building on the inside. I want to take photos of what I like on the inside. The colors are so
vibrant and really pop. I also want to capture Brantly skating at the capitol. I have always found
skateboarding to be a really cool hobby, and I like the capitol and think it would be cool to combine the
two. (especially because skating is prohibited there  )
November 12th
Today I am going to drive around and sight see. I will be exploring some of West Jordan, South
Jordan, Draper, and maybe Murray. I don’t have any place set in mind to where I want to see, and I feel
that if I just drive around there is a better chance of me capturing inner city beauty. I hope to find some
cool old houses, or barnyards with horses. Sometimes the simple things in the city life are the most
dazzling.
November 13th
I knew there would be snow in the canyon today, so I wanted to go for a hike with my cousin in
Little Cottonwood Canyon. There is another spot with waterfalls that I want to see, and I want to
capture the beautiful newly fallen snow. I hope to capture everything beautiful about winter. The fresh
powder covering oaks, aspens, all the other pretty trees. And the frozen over water with the cold
weather.
November 25th
My family is visiting my grandparents in Bear Lake for Thanksgiving. We arrived before the snow
storm, so I plan to capture photos of the lake with cloudy skies, and layers of blue of the water,
mountains and sky. I also want to capture photos after the storm, showing the beautiful transition from
no snow with cloudy skies to snow covered hills and clear skies.
My brother also brought his dog with us, so I wanted to get a few pictures of him playing in the
snow. I love watching dogs enjoy the cold.
November 29th
Today I am exploring Draper with my cousin. In the city, I find my eyes are drawn to old
buildings, or great architecture buildings. I am going to an old abandoned church that I have always
found to be pretty and historic. I hope to capture the church in a way that shows everyone else that it is
beautiful. I also think the layout of the Draper Temple is insanely awesome. The skies are clear today,
so I will have the perfect blue back drop in my photos.
