Meeting Notes and Actions
Serials currently received on Schedule D does not need to be filled in.
Interlibrary loan data collection
CDL can provide data only for transactions that come through VDX. This is a generally a subset
of total transactions; some campuses go outside of VDX to use WorldCat Resource Sharing or
Docline via NLM (medical campuses). CDL has no access to that data. If anyone needs more help
from CDL on VDX reports, send a message to Joanne or your CDL contact person is for the VDX
data.
How to handle DDA ebooks?
Should they be included in ebooks? If so, only when activated? Only when purchased? And who
gets to count them if it’s a systemwide pilot?
ARL’s instructions from last year (2012-13) said to include demand driven acquisition titles only
after they are purchased.
Action: Chan Li will ask Wendy Parfrey about what data CDL is collecting on these ebooks.
Action: Roxanne Peck (UCLA), who is on the DDA task force, will check in with that group about
what they think.
Serials
It would be helpful to share campus practices for counting serial titles and ebooks.
For ebooks, UC-eLinks folks can pull the count of the CDL-managed e-books. They can also pull
the count of the individual campus e-book subscriptions if the campus has activated the e-book
subscription in their local UC-eLinks instance.
Action: Stacy Nelson (UCSD) will post a document to the shared Google drive with a description
of San Diego’s process for counting serials and others can add to it or post their own documents.
Joanne will send out a message with more detail once Stacy has her description ready.
Digital Resources (Schedule F)
Electronic Reference Sources
Quantity is no longer asked by ARL. How do others answer this? For some, the number
of “databases” would be a more useful measure.
Usage data comes from Scholarly Stats. It would be nice to have a common
methodology that everyone would follow. New COUNTER definitions might help.
Action: Chan will draft some recommendations on methodology to include with
Scholarly Stats.
Action: Joanne will take “sessions” off Schedule F.
CDL provides electronic journal, database and ebook usage statistics by campus here:
