The Priority of Paul’s Passion
Part 5
Luke 14:25-27
And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and
children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be
my disciple. 27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me,
cannot be my disciple.
John 8:31-32
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my
word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free.
I. The turning point of passion is in the _____________.
Acts 9:3-5
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined
round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a
voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? 5 And he said,
Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom you have been
persecuting: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
A. Paul’s passion is fueled by his confidence in God’s __________.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
B. Paul’s passion is not in perfection, but in the _________________.
Philippians 3:12-14
12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I
follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended
of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this
one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth
unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize
of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
C. Paul makes a big deal about the _______________ of God’s Word.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God
may be perfect, completely furnished unto all good works.
1. His word brings new ___________ to my thoughts and intentions.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged
sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints
and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
D. Paul reveals the power of passion to produce ______________.
Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of
God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus.
1. Paul expresses power over temptation through ___________ theology.
1 Corinthians 10:13
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will
with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
2. A disciple with passion will need to take control of his _____________.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds; 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high
thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of Christ;
