This assignment will assess your understanding of Standards:
MCC7.G.5 Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to
write and solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.
MCC8.G.5 Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the
angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles.
Use your notes created in class to assist with this assignment.
CITY DESIGN PROJECT
You are to design a street map for your own fictional city. Your city will have a name
and population which must be placed at the top of your project. Your city will consist
of:
1. Six (6) streets parallel to each other. Each street should be named for reference.
2. Two (2) transversal streets (Two more streets that intersect all six of the above streets).
These should be named as well.
Do not make the transversals parallel to each other!!
3. One (1) street perpendicular to one of the transversals. Name the street.
4. Traffic lights or stop signs at 4 different intersections.
5. The following buildings must be placed as directed.
a. Your house and the school at congruent alternate interior angles.
b. The post office and the bank at same side interior angles.
c. The fire department and the police station at congruent alternate exterior angles.
d. The restaurant and courthouse at alternate interior angles.
e. The gas station and grocery store at congruent corresponding angles.
f. The hardware store and church at congruent vertical angles.
g. The lake and the farm at adjacent supplementary angles.
Materials needed: scissors, glue, colored pencils, ruler or straightedge, unlined paper, 3 x 5 index
card, colored pencils, and construction paper
How Do I Begin?

Read entire project and instruction sheet first.
Draw your streets using a ruler or straightedge. NEATNESS COUNTS!!!!
Cut out your stickers (all 18). Keep the name of the location with the picture.
Lay out your locations according to the project sheet on city streets.
CHECK YOUR WORK!!
Glue your stickers to your city design.
Write the name of your streets on your design.
Complete a 3 x 5 card with your first name and last name, the name of the city, and
the population.
9. Glue your City Design on construction paper and decorate your city (colored pencils).
10. Staple your checklist/ rubric to the back of your City Design.
