Fifth Grade Fourth Quarter Marking Period 1. PARTICIPATION/BEHAVIOR: Students will be graded based on their participation and behavior for each class. Each time students come to music class, they will get one point as a daily participation grade. If a student is not participating, or needs to be removed from the activities because of behavior issues, it will impact their daily grade. TOTAL POINTS – 10 2. WHAT IS JAZZ? ? Students will be asked this question. They will write the correct response and turn in to the teacher. TOTAL POINTS – 2 3. TAP SWING BEAT: Students will learn and practice tapping a swing beat in music class. This assessment determines how successfully students are able to tap a swing beat in a large group. TOTAL POINTS – 4 4. SCAT SINGING: Students will learn to echo, and call-and-response, scat words. In this assessment, students will be graded on how well they can use these scat words in a melodic fashion. TOTAL POINTS – 4 5. LOUIS ARMSTRONG BIOGRAPHY: Students will learn about the life of Louis Armstrong. This multiple choice quiz will include facts and details about his life. TOTAL POINTS – 10 6. BIOGRAPHY OF JAZZ MUSICIAN: As a final project, students will pick a jazz musician. They will research this musician and develop a brief biography of the musician’s life. This Type 3 writing assignment will be graded in the following way: 8 points for facts (must include 8 facts) 5 points for spelling 2 points for an interesting opening sentence TOTAL POINTS – 15
