Academic Eligibility
• Eligibility is determined each quarter
• Must achieve a minimum of 2.0 for the
quarter; no more than one E
• Ineligibility remains in effect until the next
quarter report card is distributed
Summer School
• When is summer school necessary?

- Limited locations, provide own transportation
- Summer school cost is appox. $300 per course

National Merit Scholarship
Corporation Information
The Selection Index is the sum of your critical reading,
mathematics and writing skills scores.
If it has an asterisk, you do not meet all of the eligibility
requirements for the competition.
The Percentile compares your performance to that of other
college-bound juniors.
The Entry Requirements section displays information you
provided on your answer sheet.
Your Educational Plans
Based on the college major you provided on your answer sheet,
this section will give you:
-Description of that major
-Skills associated with that major
-Recommended high school courses for that major
THE SAT
Math:
- No quantitative comparisons
- Algebra 2 included
- Testing time is reduced by 5 minutes
Critical Reading (replaces Verbal):
- No more analogies
- More passage-based reading questions
- Testing time is reduced by 5 minutes
The SAT
• New Writing Component/Multiple
Choice Section:
- Multiple choice- improving sentences and
paragraphs (25 minutes)
- Student written essay- communicating a
viewpoint (25 minutes)
Change is $45.00; Late Fee is $23.00
THE ACT
• ACT changed in Spring, 2005
- Writing section is optional
- Increasing number of schools are
accepting it
- More achievement-oriented test
- Cost is $47.00; no writing $32.00; late
fee is $21.00
ACCUPLACER
• Students attending MC must qualify to
take college level classes
• Accuplacer is placement test
• Offered to DHS seniors in October
• Qualification is based on an SAT score of
550 in Critical Reading, Math, and Writing
(total of 1650 out of 2400) or ACT score of
24 (out of 36)
DHS COURSE REGISTRATION
• Course level recommendations done by 1st
semester teachers in January
• Registration materials to students early March
• Students return completed and signed
registration card to counselor
• Course offering booklet distributed to all DHS
students during registration (also on line)
• More course offerings available to 11th graders:
- AP courses, SAT Prep, Social Studies and
Science Electives
