Appendix F ◘ Squadron Color Guard 1. Mission The squadron color guard shall conduct all flag hoisting and lowering during drill; represent the squadron during all NSCC/NLCC, civic, sponsor, and military activities as required. 2. Leadership 2.1. The operations officer shall be responsible for the supervision and training of the squadron color guard. 2.2. The operations officer shall appoint a color guard captain (CGC) to serve for one year. 2.2.1. Cadet color guard captain duties are as follows: 2.2.1.1. Trains member of the color guard. 2.2.1.2. Coordinates with the operations officer for uniform, flag, and weapon requirements. 2.2.1.3. Inspects the uniform and personal appearance of color guard members. 2.2.1.4. Ensure color guard performs duties in accordance with the Marine Corps Drill and Ceremony Manual (current edition). 3. Training 3.1. The squadron color guard shall train at regular intervals, as determined by the color guard captain and operations officer. 3.2. Training shall be conducted in accordance with the current edition of the United States Marine Corps Drill and Ceremonies Manual. 4. Selection and Membership 4.1. Selection 4.1.1. Selections for the Squadron Color Guard will be held during the 2nd Sunday in January. All members who have been in the program six months and have completed the BMR are eligible. 4.2. Membership 4.2.1. Membership shall consist of one cadet color guard captain, four active color guard members and two on-call members. 4.3. Color guard captain selection. 4.3.1. The operations officer will select the cadet color guard captain and the members of the color guard each January. The cadet color guard captain shall be a petty officer whenever possible and the members shall have completed the BMR and RTC whenever possible. The cadet color guard captain and color guard members will be selected along using the same criteria as leadership cadets with a special emphasis on military bearing, uniform appearance, dependability and attendance. 4.4. All members shall be selected for one year and are expected to make a commitment to make reasonable accommodations to attend all squadron color guard functions. 4.5. Color guard members are authorized to wear the blue aiguillette. 4.6. On-Call Members 4.6.1. On-call members are cadets, who have not yet earned their color guard ribbons. On-call members will be advised of planned color guard events and will be contacted by the color guard commander to participate. On-call members must remember to keep their dress uniforms in perfect condition. 5. Training Ship Midway Training Ship Midway’s color guard shall be formed and supervised by the operations officer. Members are not authorized to wear the blue aiguillette. 6. Exceptions All exceptions / modifications will be by order of the commanding officer. F G
