“The Talk-Over”- Meet the Hosts
Before you get to reading the articles, go and read on the
hosts first. You’ll thank us later. Unless you are already a fan
and you know the hosts by heart, then don’t read this. It’ll
mean nothing to you.
John Herdman is the coach for Canada’s national women’s soccer
team. Born in Consett, England, he is a mainstay host for the BBC web series “The
Talk-Over” and is recognized for his hysterical laughter when listening to Mariah
Carey’s songs. Herdman is also a sports analyst for CBC’s FIFA World Cup
coverage, and has high knowledge on the beautiful game he coaches and loves. He
currently resides in a small London apartment with Trisha Hershberger, the cohost of “The Talk-Over” and is married to his childhood sweetheart Clare with two
children. He stars in “Interns” as himself and plays Nick Cannon’s only “bro who’s
British.”
Trisha Hershberger is one of the hosts of YouTube’s
SourceFed, a formerly famous web series. Born and raised in Schwenksville,
Pennsylvania, she is a geek at heart and also resides in London with John Herdman.
Trish is also a mainstay host for “The Talk-Over” alongside Herdman, and both
somehow despise Pharrell Williams for what they think is “a relationship with
Mariah Carey”. Mrm-hrm, they have kept straight faces on for that. Recognized
for her excellent reviews on the show, (particularly in the gaming genre) Trish is
also known to make hilarious reactions on the show. She also appears on the Fine
Brothers’ YouTube series “YouTubers React” and is the voice of Susan Hill in
“Interns”.
Gary Cahill is a central defender for Chelsea FC and England’s
national team. After playing for infamous Premier League teams such as Burnley FC
and Bolton Wanderers, he moved to Chelsea in 2011, scoring 3 goals for the Blues
so far and winning Chelsea’s first UEFA Champions League title shortly after
joining the club. Joining “The Talk-Over” in September 2013, he had made short
appearances as co-host of the show for its 2nd and 3rd seasons before being
confirmed by BBC as a mainstay host for the show. Often paired with John
Herdman for sports, Cahill also has a great sense of humour when it comes to being
paired with Trisha Hershberger for music video analysis. Having set a record for
BBC with over 29 music videos watched to his name, Gary Cahill has continuously
progressed in both the music and sports genres, only to be paired with Herdman
more than Hershberger on the show. Appears in “Interns” as himself along with
Chelsea FC captain John Terry.
Benny and Rafi Fine, or simply the Fine Brothers, are
the co-creators of this show. They are known for their success on YouTube with
their React series of videos, featuring kids, teens, YouTubers, and an outrageous
bunch of elders. Both were born in Brooklyn, New York and are of Jewish heritage.
Their faces aren’t always shown in “The Talk-Over”, but the Fine Bros. are the
cameramen who aren’t afraid to ask questions and talk with the hosts. Both appear
in “Interns” as themselves and as of now, reside in Liverpool, England.
Early-Birds
You would understand why these 3 get up at 4 in the morning, because
they are willing to go on until what could be the wee hours of the
morning drinking tea and eating waffles while sparking some great
conversations.
No longer a SourceFed host, Meg Turney now hosts a show alongside
Texan machinimists Rooster Teeth called “The Know”. Born in Austin, Texas,
Turney is trying to adjust to life in London and is often paired with Phil Jagielka
for some odd reason in the sports genre. Known to shift topics in certain
discussions, she often visits the Everton team’s dressing room with Philip DeFranco
to bother Phil and his teammates. Meg is also recognized for laughing too easily at
Phil’s English accent and absolutely hates to talk about tea. Talk about Northern
Exposure! Meg currently resides in Fulham, probably the noisiest part of London,
but luckily, she can handle the long-standing rivalry between Arsenal and Chelsea.
Hopefully the Texan has learned a lot about London life already.
Hopefully this face looks familiar to you, because
every SourceFed fan should recognize this face. Philip DeFranco, also known as the
brainchild and founder of SourceFed, is the talking part of the show, and nothing
but the talking part. We counted over 2 million words in his conversations, and to
sum things up, Philly is just a very talkative guy. He is also the working force of the
show, because he is in every single episode, and that is BBC’s equivalent of Tim
Howard. Reliable when it comes to reacting to videos and challenges, the Bronx
native is eager to do either one, especially if Phil Jagielka doesn’t man up to any of
them. And Philly is also the musical force of the show, having been tied with Gary
Cahill for over 29 music videos watched and analyzed. He is so-called ‘mad’ about
Mariah Carey, but no one knows why. And no one really cares. Philly is also the
comedic force of the show with Meg Turney, Phil Jagielka being the reacting force
of all the humour. He is married to Lindsay Jordan Doty, and has a happy baby boy
purposely named Philip “Trey” DeFranco the 3rd. Phil resides in a small apartment
close to the Anfield Stadium in Liverpool after a rough move from his other
apartment in Munich (close to Allianz Arena) in 2013.
Phil Jagielka is a midfielder for Everton FC and England’s national
team. Having played with Tim Cahill (Gary’s misinterpretation) in the past, Phil was
sadly removed as captain due to England’s lackluster performance at this year’s
World Cup, but has put on the armband in mid-2014. He played for Sheffield
United until 2007, and hasn’t scored any goals for Everton, but is fantastic when it
comes to assists. Phil joined the show in September 2013, and is known to start
many conversations on tea and Tim Howard, Everton’s Mr. Reliable. Jagielka has
also scored a goal over Dutch superstars AZ Alkmaar in a 2-1 win at the UEFA Cup
during his first days at Everton in 2008. He frequently makes appearances on the
main show through Google+ or Skype, and if John will even allow him, talks to Gary
Cahill and sometimes Trish. Jagielka is in charge of the sports genre and is paired
with Meg Turney. He is not a big fan of Mariah Carey, but is on the lookout and
often searches for possible reasons why Philip DeFranco has gone mad for her. The
irony in that? When Mariah appears for interviews on the show, Phil is frequently
talking to her or is the one interviewing her. Though he lives in Liverpool, he
resides in a New York apartment in the middle of Manhattan.
