Notes from NRHS Student Services

TRANSCRIPTS:
Transcripts may be ordered in Student Services in the binder on the table by the door. Any
transcripts ordered during the week will be available the following Monday in Student
Services. November report card marks will remain on your transcript until the end of the
semester, when they are replaced by your final mark.
AARAO POST SECONDARY VISITSION:
Post Secondary Visitation is being held on Wednesday, November 25. Grade 11 classes are
scheduled from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.; Grade 12 classes from 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. There
will also be a parent night at North Nova Education Centre on Tuesday, November 24, from
6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
SHCOLARSHIPS, AWARDS, AND INFORMATION SESSION
1.
Nova Scotia Community College – Nautical Institute – On November 26, 2015,
the NSCC Nautical Institute will be hosting a Marine Day for individuals interested in
learning more about Careers at Sea. Students will gain knowledge about the Marine
Industry, including skills required, entrance requirements, jobs, travel, salaries, and
much more. If you are interested in attending, you must register by send your
name, address, and phone number to marineevents@nscc.ca or by calling 902-6257918.

Peter Kohler Scholarship – This scholarship valued at $15,000 (renewable for up
to four years), will be awarded to a graduating student from an Atlantic Canadian
High School in June of 2016, who will be entering their first year of full-time studies
in an Engineering Program at an Atlantic Canadian university in September 2016.

Schulick Leader Scholarships – East year 50 Schulick Scholarships are awarded:
25 at $80,000 for Engineering; and 25 at $60,000 for Science, Technology, or
Mathematics. NRHS will nominate one outstanding student for a Schulick Leader
Sholarship. These scholarships are prestigious entrance scholarships awarded to
high school graduates enrolling in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics
(STEM) programs at one of the following universities: University of British Columbia,
Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria, University of Alberta, University of
Calgary, University of Manitoba, University of Victoria, University of Alberta,
University of Ottawa, Queen’s University, University of Toronto, University of
Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, York University, McGill University,
University of Montreal, Laval University, Dalhousie University, Memorial University,
or University of New Brunswick. The candidate must be graduating in June 2016, be
a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and must have two of the following three
attributes:
Academic Excellence, Leadership (community, business, or
entrepreneurial), and/or Financial Need. If you wish to be considered as NRHS’s
nominee, please submit a letter of intent to the Scholarship Committee indicating the
reasons why you should be chosen. Please include a copy of your resume with your
letter and two letters of reference. These are due in Student Services by January 19,
2016, as the nominee’s name must be submitted by February 23, 2016. More

RBC Aboriginal Student Awards Program – RBC awards ten scholarships in two
categories: for aboriginal students majoring in disciplines related to the financial
services industry or for students majoring in disciplines unrelated to the financial
service industry. To be eligible, applications and supporting documents are to be
received by RBC by February 28, 2016. Applications may be secured in three ways:
by fax – 1-866-780-2188; by mail – RBC Aboriginal Student Awards, c/o Aboriginal
Link, PO Box 50058, 17-2595 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB R2V 4W3; or online –
www.gotoapply.ca/RBC.

Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone $6,000 Entrance Scholarship – This entrance
scholar-ship was established by the Province of Nova Scotia in August of 1991 to
encourage young people to educate themselves on human rights issues in Canada.
It honours the life and work of the late Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone, a former Executive
Director of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. Applicants must be Nova
Scotia residents who are entering a first year of an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree
program, and have demonstrated an interest in multiculturalism and human rights.

deadline for receipt of the application is March 31, 2016.
