Summer Firefighter Academy 2014 — The purpose of this Academy is to produce high quality firefighters who will strengthen the ability of fire protection service in order to provide a higher degree of customer service. A mandatory orientation will be held June 15 at 2pm. Classes begin June 16 at 8am and run Monday-Friday and a few Saturdays .A complete schedule will be provided at the orientation. The Academy will end August 15 with a graduation ceremony. Topics covered will be Firefighter courses; Hazardous Materials; Rapid Intervention Team Training; Physical Training; and Live Fire Scenarios. Candidates must complete an application packet to be accepted into the Academy. There are a limited number of seats and NO walk-ins will be accepted. A few local fire departments have agreed to allow candidates to be housed at fire stations. A $175 non-refundable fee is required for student supplies including textbooks, uniforms, and other supplies. Also, there is a $1.30 fee for student insurance. Every Qualified FF Instructor MUST attend one of the upgrades, or you will lose your qualification. The new program is projected to begin January 1, 2015, so these upgrades are in place now to prepare instructors for the changes.
