Summer Firefighter Academy 2014 — The purpose of this Academy is to produce high quality firefighters who will strengthen
the ability of fire protection service in order to provide a higher degree of customer service. A mandatory orientation will be
held June 15 at 2pm. Classes begin June 16 at 8am and run Monday-Friday and a few Saturdays .A complete schedule will be
provided at the orientation. The Academy will end August 15 with a graduation ceremony. Topics covered will be Firefighter
courses; Hazardous Materials; Rapid Intervention Team Training; Physical Training; and Live Fire Scenarios. Candidates must
complete an application packet to be accepted into the Academy. There are a limited number of seats and NO walk-ins will be
accepted. A few local fire departments have agreed to allow candidates to be housed at fire stations. A $175 non-refundable
fee is required for student supplies including textbooks, uniforms, and other supplies. Also, there is a $1.30 fee for student
insurance. The fees are not due until acceptance into the Academy. To receive an application, please call 704-669-4193 or

Firefighter Instructor Requalification — Cleveland Community College will be hosting the NC Office of State Fire Marshal at the
Brown Emergency Training Center on June 24 from 7pm-10pm for the Firefighter Qualification Instructor Upgrade. Every
Qualified FF Instructor MUST attend one of the upgrades, or you will lose your qualification. The new program is projected to
begin January 1, 2015, so these upgrades are in place now to prepare instructors for the changes. Please call Carolyn Lovelace

Registration days are Monday thru Thursday from 8 am – 4 pm. The pre-requisites for EMT Basic are high school diploma or GED, or
at least 16 years of age (and attending high school). Registration location is the Brown Emergency Training Center, 2423 Kings Road
Ext., Shelby, NC 28152. Students who have an affiliation with a fire department or EMS agency in North Carolina are fee exempt

This is a basic First Aid and CPR class. This course is not suitable for those healthcare providers requiring AHA BLS Healthcare Provider CPR
certification. This course teaches key changes reflecting the new science from the 2010 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. Students will learn
Adult CPR and AED Use; Adult choking; child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and choking; and universal first aid. Students must arrive at class with
the AHA Heartsaver® First Aid CPR & AED Student Manual. The text is available for purchase in the College Bookstore. Students will not be

This course builds upon skills and assessments learned in the EMT-Basic course and transitions students to be able to provide advanced level care. Topics

ITLS is accepted internationally as the standard training course for prehospital trauma care. It's used as a state-of-the-art continuing education course —

Online Hybrid USDOT EMT-Paramedic Refresher Course (EMS-3077)
PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED
This course assists credentialed EMT-Paramedic’s in meeting the requirements for NC Office of EMS re-credentialing, and can serve as a means of the
EMT-Paramedic meeting the required continuing education/refresher course for the National Registry of EMT’s. The fast paced course will start on Sept
16, 2013, and end on Oct 16, 2014. There will be two required class meetings, Monday Sept 15, 2014 from 0800-1800, and Thursday Oct 16, 2014 from
0900-1730 at the Brown Emergency Training Center. The cost of the course is 125.00 unless fee exempt. To register for this course please call Teresa

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to

Pediatric- ITLS

ITLS Pediatric continues the training of the Basic and Advanced courses with an emphasis on understanding and responding to trauma in children. The
eight-hour course teaches the proper assessment, stabilization and packaging of pediatric trauma patients. It also highlights techniques for communicating
with young patients and their parents. Hands-on stations include: (1) Patient assessment and management; (2) Airway management and chest decompression;
(3) Fluid resuscitation; (4) Spine motion restriction — pediatric immobilization device.

Online EMS Leadership Academy for EMS Professionals
(Multiple Offerings of Required On-site Days)
This course will provide field specific, relevant courses that offer broad resources for potential EMS managerial candidates in a
variety of topics, allowing a seamless transition into the roles of Field Training Officer, Lieutenants, and Captains, as well as those
modalities needed for EMS Director. There will be some required On-Site days.

This course will also offer valuable information to those currently in frontline EMS Management roles, allowing them to supplement their
current knowledge base, and expand their leadership ability with information from industry-leading business professionals with an EMS
emphasis.

This course is 160 contact hours in length; CE credit may be used for EMS professional development requirements for current EMS
instructors.

Subspecialty offerings will be held in the future to include in-depth education in Budgeting, Finance, Education, Investigation, HR Topics,
Incident Management, System Status Management, etc.
Dates: June 2 – July 27, 2014
Cost: $125 (NC Tuition) per Module / $500 Total Fee Unless Fee Exempt
