Directions: You will research the 1960s and the 1970s by creating your own American Album.
First, you will create a cover for an album. Then you will select various songs on the Civil Rights
Era, the Vietnam War, and the Hippie Movement. Finally, you must write either a poem or a
song on the 1960s or 1970s. You may also choose to present your material in power point. A
finished project must be in your folder or handed to me on the assigned due date.
This great era of protest in America saw a collision of music genres ranging from folk
revival to gospel to rock and roll as musicians sang for change. While some sixties songwriters
drew on protest music’s past, others abandoned old tunes and general themes in favor of all out
cultural assaults on specific events. Rock and roll was a new art form in the 1960s and 1970s,
however, the idea that music could be used to protest social and political unrest was nothing new
for America.
Your project will include the following: Report must follow in this order.

sources (one book, one encyclopedia and an internet source).
Please see the attached page 6. This is located at the end of your
report.
(5 pts.) Overall appearance/effort and presentation of the

Crosby, Stills, and Nash is a folk rock supergroup made up of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and
Graham Nash. They are noted for their intricate vocal harmonies, often tumultuous interpersonal
relationships, political activism, and lasting influence on music and culture. Occasionally, Neil
Young would join the group and they were known as Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young (CSNY).
All four members of CSNY have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

Bob Dylan, Blowing in the Wind
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, ’n’ how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, ’n’ how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they’re forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind
How many years can a mountain exist
Before it’s washed to the sea?
Yes, ’n’ how many years can some people exist
Before they’re allowed to be free?
Yes, ’n’ how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn’t see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, ’n’ how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, ’n’ how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind
