President’s Welcome
A. 2011 Committee Chair Needs: May Fun Day (Games, Grade coordinators)
 The February Tele-Parent has a new “Help Wanted” section … please let us know if
you are interested in helping with an activity or event!

Principal’s Comments / Teacher Remarks
A. Reviews on NED Assembly and NED Gear Sale
 One of the best assemblies! Over $3,000 worth of yo-yos were sold!
B. Reviews on Health & Wellness Fair
 A great turnout and a good time! Thank you to Mr. Eldred and everyone who helped
make this event a success!
C. Update on 100 Book Challenge
 This challenge is going well! At this time, no stars need to be purchased.
D. Patient First Donation
 Our school has purchased Leveled Literacy (a reading intervention kit ) with this
generous donation.
E. Jump Rope for Heart- February 1 Kick-off assembly
 It was an entertaining jump rope assembly with tricks and tips for keeping a healthy
heart.
 The after-school jump rope event will be held on Wednesday, February 8.
F. Seeking parent volunteers to provide clerical support for teachers
 Thank you to Mrs. Bollinger for assisting teachers one morning per week.
 A volunteer list is available for “sign-up” in the office.
G. Hershey Bears- Mr. Stevens would like to take the 5th Grade chorus to the Hershey Bears
game to sing the National Anthem.
 The PTA will pay for the chorus students’ tickets to the game. We plan to budget
this expense for each year from now on.
J. Parent/Teacher Conferences – Friday, Feb. 2
K. Additional principal/teacher comments
 Parent Pick-up: Mrs. Box and the staff are working diligently to determine the
safest and most effective method for students and parents.

Membership Report – Vice President Andrea Cavoli
 We currently have181 members. New members are always welcome at any time!

VI.
Committee Reports and Upcoming Events
A. Book Fair – Judy Franklin & Kathy Graham
 Preparations have begun for the next book fair (Feb. 21-24) with a Hawaiian Luau
theme.
 Grandparents Day will be on Wednesday morning.
 The Book Fair will be open Friday evening - Bingo Night!
B. Bingo- Mary Towns will report
 Bingo night is Friday, February 24.
 Refreshments will be served including pizza, veggies, and other “goodies” at this
event!
C. Fundraising – Sammie Miller
a. Sheetz Coupon Books - There are 21 books left to sell (good thru
Dec. 2014); $10 per book.
b. Red Robin Fundraiser: Due to a good turnout, $180 has been
earned for our PTA! Thanks to everyone who participated in this
fundraiser.
c. Sub Sale – A $2,730.00 profit has been earned! Our next sub sale
will be in March.
D. Skating Party – Andre Cavoli will review for Kelli Szobocsan
 Attendance was low for this event.
E. Talent Show- Jennifer McCauslin
 Date and time: April 13, 2012; 6:30-8:30p.m.
 Volunteers are still needed for this event.
 Applications will be coming home for those students interested in participating.
F. May Fun Day- Sat., May 19
 Volunteers are needed!
 High school students will help out again this year!
G. Art-to-Go
 It has been decided to put this event on hold for this year due to time and
scheduling constraints and volunteer commitment.
H. Spirit Wear- Sample shirts
 We are still searching for a new and improved logo for North Side Elementary.
I. Activities Day- May 11
 Thank you to Pam Dunn for chairing this committee. Volunteers and still needed.
J. PAC meeting – Next Meeting: February 26
 Any questions can be directed to John Smith, our PAC representative.
K. Cartridges for Kids Collection Drive- Update
 The Brown Bag Collection Drive will occur through Feb. 6. Thank you to Megan
Michael for organizing this PTA program.
L. Teacher Conference Luncheon- Friday, February 3
M. Friendship Center Night- Sunday, March 18 (moved from March 4)
 Come join other North Side families from 6:15-8:00 p.m. for a fun night!
 More information is coming soon.
N. 5th grade party
 A meeting is scheduled for Wed., Feb. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
 Thank you to Suzie Harper and Jill Tenney for chairing this committee.
VII.
New Business
A. An all school dance is possibly coming next Fall!
B. End of the year ice-cream social
 This will be a fun family event at the end of the school year – tentatively planned for
Sunday, June 3.
C. Move PTA meetings to Tuesday night? - No change will be made for this year.
VIII.
PTA Communications
A. Communication methods- Who should we send PTA Communications to? Go green and
online? Or, continue to send hard copies of newsletters, etc.
 All PTA minutes are available on the North Side webpage for everyone to view.
 A North Side PTA Facebook page will be created for additional communication.
B. Tel A Parent – Thank you to Annie Brescia for publishing this school newsletter each
month!
 Submissions for the newsletter are due by the 20th of each month.
C. Website- Thank you to Mrs. Smith for being our webmaster! She will continue to update
our website.
D. Next Meeting – Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 7:00 PM
